Technical Roof problems, advice needed.

You can do a decent temporary repair job on the roof seals with strips of windscreen wiper rubber and black silicon sealer. If you do it neatly it doesn't show... Works quite well as a stopgap but you can't fold the roof down. The seals take a lot of stress at the point where they fold just behind the 'B' pillar and no repair seems to last.

So my new soft top came today and it looks like a quality item. I now realise that the rubber surround is attatched to the frame and not the material. Can this be ordered seperatly and would it be easy to fit? The old one is split at both sides where the roof folds and it looks fairly solidly attatched.

Hello, well done for your new "capotto"
From there did you get it? And how much?

My friend, you dont want to now the cost of this rubbers!!!!:eek::eek:

That's the main reason I went for a hardtop. Fiat charge prices Al Capone wouldn't have dreamed of..

If you want details I'll post all the part numbers and latest prices...prepare to be raped.

Hallo Barchetta Fans
For those who are interested there is something new in the rear screen dept. I have developed a glass rear screen hood for the Barchetta.

I suppose you could call it tuning for your soft top.

Hallo Steve
The car in the video (which I cant post a link to until I've made 5 posts, and this is number 4) was fitted with this glass rear window top about a year ago. I made it as a one piece top, that is although the top needs to be in two pieces to work properly I sewed them together where the top is attached to the rear horizontal hoop at the back. Since I made a glass rear screen conversion for the Alfa Spider type 916 I've changed my mind a little bit and have decided to make the top (for the B.) out of two completely separate sections. The advantage of this is that I will be able to offer a glass rear screen `kit`that can be fitted to existing tops. It will not be just a bolt on job (life's not that easy) but it will mean that somebody who has bought a mohair top in the last couple of years can have a glass rear screen without having to buy a whole new top and have to get rid of a recently bought new top. This lowers the barriers of purchase for people who want this kind of product but don't have unlimited funds. Those of us who have unlimited funds probably drive something else anyway!!!.
I'm sorry about ramblig on so much but this information is necessary to under stand that the screen carrier hood piece should be of the same material as the rest of the hood for it to look good. The PVC hooding material from the original top is different to all other types that I've seen (Golf, Escort, Punto etc.) and I don't know if its wise to do this conversion to an old top that may only last another 3-4 years and the rear screen section lasts for 10-15 years.

Many Regards

If you used glass with a heated element you could use the wiring for the hardtop to power it. I think that would sell better.

Hallo barchetta_97 and afroking
First of all, thanks very much for putting the video on the forum. This glass rear screen is heated and tinted (green). The bus bars are concealed under the obscuration band (thats the black around the edges of car screens).
The drawback of putting the video directly on the forum is that you don't see the other video's. R19, Alfa Spider, Punto, Smart, MX5, Audi 80 and 944 although the Porsche isn't my work I'm involved with the project.
Thanks to everyone who's interested.

Here is a video for anyone attempting to replace their soft top like me. I found it helpful in visualizing the task ahead. You might want to turn down the awful musak.

I'm not sure how to embed the video so I'll just leave a link:

Hallo paganeli panda
I'm sorry that I've taken so long to reply, I've been a little busy and I didn't know quite what to say. As you can see from the video the top works well and this car is in everyday use.

Many regards

Hi Chris

Weather is finally cool enough so I have just taken off the hard top...

Seems my "origional" fiat soft top is starting to deteriorate quickly and I am looking at replacing it this year.

I have been checking out the cost of replacing it with a Mohair hood as I do not like the pvc hood.

All the ones that I have looked at have the usual plastic rear screen. My origional one has lasted 9 years and I'm sure that a replacement will outlast my ownership but I have got used to looking through the hard top glass screen and I am very interested in your glass screen.

Please could you give me some idea on how much you would charge for your full mohair hood with glass screen.

This would be supply only and not fitting but I would require postage to either Uk or overseas.

I hope you don'tmind me posting this question here instead of emailing you directly as I think alot of other members would be interested with this information.

I understand whatever value you quote today would be subject to change....

Many thanks for your time Chris and I would like to thank you for taking an interest in the Barchetta and producing this upgrade..

Kindest reguards

Wayne
