I'm a bit light on decent pictures of the car. Will this do?

I,d like to clear something,

Would the 284mm discs and calipers on the likes of the early coupe, or any 20ltr 16v bravo/ bravia maria's fit the B as a direct replacement upgrade.

Bearing in mind i have larger wheels on mine.

I think they would but if anyone know any different please confirm and why.

iQue! I thought it was blue with minilite style alloys...

Heh... that's my Photoshop plaything. Minilites were on the cards for a while before I bought the Momos but I couldn't get the deal I was looking for from Minilite. I'd still like a set.

KC3, are you looking to improve braking or looks? I'm pretty sure any larger disk is going to need the adapter brackets and won't neccessarily improve braking. It will depend a lot on the caliper clamping force as well as the pads and disk itself - and just replacing the fronts COULD have a dramatic negative effect on braking balance. For generally better braking a decent set of disks and pads from someone such as Tarox would offer a noticeable improvement. And probably only cost around £200 each end for brand new disks and pads.

Who owns the Lancia Delta parked behind you?

Not exactly a clear answer but more of a pointer. Check the bolt size and spacing between for the two bolts that hold the caliper onto the hub.

What i want, is improoved braking.

I presently run vented grooved discs with Ferrodo DS500 front pads, and fast road pads on grooved rear discs. the brakes have improoved over the standard setup but still feel it doesnt stop me how i would like too.

with the upcomming Turbo modification and 200horses pulling me i would like some bigger ranes.....aka bigger brakes...:D

A big brake conversion like the Brembo's or Tarox would be perfect but rather expensive and so looking at other posible avenues.

The bolt patern or measurement for our brake calipers is 100mm

Barchetta, Bravo/Brava/Marea 1.6 auto, 1.8 16v, 1.9 JTD - All same brakes.

2.0 20v Marea/Bravo/Coupe, 2.4JTD Marea, 2.0 16v Tipo/Coupe 2.0 16v Turbo Coupe - all 284mm discs and have wider & larger bolt pattern.

Bumping this as I'm interested in an upgrade. The IOM TT circuit gets the brakes a bit hot!

Not sure how many times it needs to be said but I'll give it another go:

Option 1) Same size, good quality disks (not some cheap Taiwanese crap off eBay), pads, Goodrich hoses and high quality fluid. Cost £2-300. Improvement - noticeable but not massive.

Option 2) Bigger disks from Fiat Coupe Turbo (for example). Suitable calipers PLUS CALIPER ADAPTERS/HANGERS, pads, hoses and fluid. Cost £1,000 - £1,200. Improvement massive. Possible downside - unbalanced braking so budget for better rear disks and pads as well. Also, is the master cylinder up to the job? I'm not sure.

There's no cheap way to improve the braking substantially, and why would there be? If you want to drive fast and brake well be prepared to open your wallet. Having said that, a 130bhp - 150bhp car on well set up standard size brakes will stop perfectly well in most conditions. I'd say option 1 will be fine for most. For a turbo conversion be prepared for a bigger spend.

I was tempted by these but I really don't need to uprate mine at the moment.

Brand new Brembo calipers. They look to be a bit sloppily painted and the Ferrari stickers need to be removed but at the moment there are no bids on them and a start price of £200. New disks are available from the same seller as well although I think they are a bit overpriced.

Finishes soon so be quick!

Agreed with the bit about the standard brakes. Keep them in good condition, change the fluid and balance front and rear:- for a standard B thats fine. Beware of uprating the pads on the standard discs..can have a lot of unbalanced disc wear unless you change the discs at the same time.

I find that most of the time the standard brakes on my converted B work ok. At normal traffic speeds there isn't any difference. However the conversion means I have a potential 150Mph car which really ought to have decent stoppers. The few times I've wond the beast up..with the speedo off the clock! (on an airfield runway as the beastie isn't road legal / insured) the amount of fade at 140mph on standard set up is frightening..."Captain she won't take it...we aren't going to stooop!"

I have first dibs on the brakes from a written off 20vt..owner is truly unhappy..parked outside his house and rear ended by a dildo in a Volvo estate yakking on her mobile.

There are some easy swaps available for some of the smaller Fiats, for example the 257mm vented discs and calipers can be bolt-for-bolt swapped for 240s onto a Cinquecento or Seicento and give huge improvements - just hoping the same could be done on the bigger cars.

Thanks for the info though :)

Right, well I bought those Brembos in the end, couldn't resist. I'm going to get the caliper hanging brackets made and do a fitting guide when I get round to fitting them. It might take a while though as I don't get much spare time so don't hold your breath!

I might get a batch of the hanging brackets made up for anyone else who is thinking of doing this. Anyone interested? Alternatively I might try and put together some complete big brake kits with refurbed calipers, new disks and pads and the brackets.
