General Bumble's Bee

Well having failed miserably with my cereal packet airscoop, I am confident you will find my leg room modification simply amazing. I have managed to achieve over 900mm of increased legroom, albeit with some loss of cornering stability.

The downsides are;

Even with my 1970's 'Tommy' platforms, I can't reach the pedals
I have to use my arm extenders to reach the gear stick and steering wheel
The roof is 900 mm short of the windscreen and, admittedly, does allow a drop of rain to enter the car.

Construction of my garage is now underway. It's going to be an expensive month so a number of little jobs on the B are having to wait. I had the chance for a topless run to my local woodyard yesterday which caused some amusement when I bought 300m of 150 x 50 timber as they don't deliver.

Plugs B has red inserts in the steering wheel. Were these an optional extra, are they separate a part or do you need the complete wheel?

Steve

The only Barchetta I have seen with red inserts is the Riviera edition with the red interior. You definitely need the complete wheel if you want them.

Thanks mate.. what else is red in the Riviera edition? Mine wheel has black inserts and, I my first thoughts were that it may have come off a black car. Apart from the inserts, my car is identical to Plugs and I would only want the wheel if it should be there originally.

This is our fourth consecutive day of sunshine here and my two car oak framed garage is beginning to develop... as is the sunburn on the back of my neck. Still, if it stays nice, were going for a blast down the Northumberland coast this evening.

I think it also has a red interior (seats and door cards) which are cross stitched leather (like a prostitutes hand bag :D)
I have seen some also with a Red dashboard and centre console, but I am not sure if this is specific to the Riviera.

Garage is looking good, very expensive but probably worthwhile.
Going to need it soon when the weather takes a nasty turn!

Thanks for the info mate. It's raining here today so no further work on the garage until it brightens up. I'm doing it all myself and I bought the oak for the front as two trees and had them sawn to the sizes I wanted then shaped them and dressed them. The rest is treated softwood to keep the cost down. The oak lintols weigh around 200 lb each, hence the borrowed forklift. I'm hoping to do the whole thing for around £2500.

Excellent, doing things yourself is great fun and really keeps prices down.

Are you a tradesman or a hobbyist?

Neither really... I'm a teacher with six weeks holiday and plenty of self taught experience of working with wood. I really like the look of Alpine style buildings and spent the half term holiday at Lake Garda and The Dolomites. When everyone else was photographing the lakes and mountains, I was snapping shots of front doors, summer houses and roof details.

I really admire people who have courage to take on projects themselves, it can be so rewarding. Its all to do with technique at the end of the day, we all have the ability although many of us lack the motivation.

To be honest mate... I'm looking forward to working on the Barchetta myself. It's been all too easy to stick the car into the local garage for even minor repairs and it's only when my youngest son has started building a classic BMW 2002 rally car, that I found myself not being able to resist offering help. Things like changing gearboxes, clutches and even engines were all done sort of matter of factly in the 70's and often in the street too. It's only things like ECU's and 'red keys' that I cant get my head around but theres so much knowledge and help on here. Anyway, there is a bright light in the sky so I'm back on the construction.

Regards..

Unfortunately fixing cars on the side of the road is considered anti social whereas on a driveway with a garage it is acceptable. It is more common in council estates to have cars on axle stands on the side of the road. I always fix my own car, I don't trust anyone else with it.

Is there any way of getting a bit more adjustment on the drivers seat. I would like the seat back to be a fraction more upright than available at the moment.

Steve

There should be a little lever on the left hand side of the seat as you are sitting in it. It is right down near the seat base. If you pull it upwards gently whilst sitting in the seat you can adjust the seat back.
