greetings all,

Can someone please recomend a good make of these xenons lamps
or are they all about the same?
I see barchettaparts has 2 for sale, one for 95 euros and another for 115 euros (i think).
Surelly there must be some difference?

thare´s like a major price difference, if Robot and the guys who use the cheapper version have no complaints, I don´t see why not use it.
thks guys

I've only used mine since about April last year and I'm well happy with it. Easy to install, cheap, and works a treat - so I'd say go for it (y)

They're not legal in Norway either, but as long as the Polish bloke at the garage gets some money for the MOT there's no problem whatsoever :)

in that case it´s back to the drawing board. So those are illegal, is it because they cheaper or just because they xenon?

Technically it's illegal in the UK to fit HIDs to a car that didn't come with them from the factory. To do it legally you'd have to have lamp units designed to be fitted with HID bulbs, with automatic self levelling.

I've not had any problems with mine in Ireland. car sailed through the NCT no problem.
You will need to get the lights carefully adjusted as the beam pattern is a bit different (mine was a lot higher with the HID's). So long as you do that and get a legal colour..3500 yellow is brightest and looks the same colour as a bulb you should be ok.
The chav's get nicked because they fit illegal colour lamps in old fashioned lamp units that can't focus the bulb (Saxo is sooo cool with purple HID's :slayer:) so you get a bright but useless light. Legal colours are 3500k to 8000k. Which is yellow white to blue -white. Hate the blue white ones..makes the car look like an A*holes X5...
B is fine with HID's as it has projector sidelights. Don't bother with HID's in the mains. I tried and they don't work properly, poor focus.

Hehe, just been informed, no problem here in Portugal either, as long as they properly aligned.

i have the cheap ones from ebay with white lights. they are fine and have passed many a policeman with them and they have passed the mot no problem so i would say they are legal or by now i would have know about it:)

The legislation states that they aren't legal, but it's worth knowing as it's something you could be pulled up on. In reality, people do seem to be getting away with it.

Just something to be aware of rather than lose sleep over, really :)

Personally I'm against HIDs because the light emitted isn't focused and the headlight unit isn't designed to cope with such light intensity. So when I'm driving down a country road in the dead of night and some chav in their Clio has 6000k+ HIDs installed and their fog lights on and I'm approaching a bend its nearly impossible to see. Have you noticed why it is so expensive to have them fitted from the factory? That's because the light unit was designed specifically and solely for them.

Anyway don't mind me, there are loads for ridiculously cheap prices on Ebay.

Ad.

The barchetta has projector headlamps which work very well with HID. There is a very sharp cut-off of light above the dip beam and they give no glare at all above headlamp height if adjusted correctly.

The advantage over the stock dipped beam is like night and day. Barchettas have particularly poor headlights as standard, IMO HIDs make driving in the dark far safer for everyone.

Think this might be more to do with it being a way for the manufacturers to make a huge profit. Compare the cost of a factory install sat-nav to an aftermarket one that is functionally the same, if not better - 1500 pounds typically compared to 150 pounds.

Well an alternative to HID's are OSRAM or PHILIPS bulbs which emit more intense light than a standard bulb. Have you tried either of those? In the case of a Sat-Nav then yes they are over priced but with the light units they are designed separately to standard halogen bulb units so thats where the extra cost is incurred.
