Please could anyone shed some light on what this part is for?

Have recently noticed mine is broken and it seems that the part is unavailable new.

From what I can tell it changes the speed of the fan. I presume as the radiator temp increases the resistance increases and thus slows the cooling effect of the radiator??

I was wondering what would happen if I was to bypass this resistor? (join the wires together). ie fans would run faster and give more cooling...?? For me this would be a good thing. Anyone knows if this just affects the 2nd fan?

would this be likely to cause any harm to the engine?

Any opinions would be appreciated

Many thanks

Wayne

I have the dual fans in my B but not because it has aircon, I fitted it to help with the engine cooling times. The engine fan works as normal and cuts in and out when the engine temp goes up, the other fan speeds up and slows down when the aircon is used to keep it running at the correct temp. As I don't have aircon on my B I connected the two fans together and both now run at the same speed and time.

I cant say what this will do to your aircon but it works fine for me.

Hope this helps

I have had an overheating problem...and I put it down to "my fans don't work at all" !

On investigation I found the wiring is "shot" ! And no resistor in place.
(see pics below. I bought it like this !)

Whilst I do have aircon, it isn't really that important to me....a cooler engine is !

Is there a way that I can rewire my fans to a) make them work ! and b) make them damn effective in the heat of the Spanish summers.

Any solutions ? It seems like ideas have been covered in this thread, so I would love to know the details of "how to".

Kim
