Just wondered if anyone knows why they changed the calipers on the B,

I have on mine the older lucas smaller type calipers on the front and the iron calipers on the rear which are found on the earlier models upto 97/98 i believe

After that they have changed the front caliper to a different style , slightly bigger and a different pad shape. The rears have also been changed to be made in aluiminum.

My question is? Was there an initial problem with old and are the newer style better and why.

I seem to have no issues with mine but would like to know if one has noticed any difference in Old v New.

Re: Barchetta Brake Callipers OLD v NEW

Sorry fella can't help but I would assume that it would be to do with economies of scale and sharing the components with other FIAT cars - only a guess!

I would imagine that if the earlier ones were ineffective or dangerous FIAT would have recalled them and replaced them. Take a look on ePer and compare the hubs for the older and newer hubs, if the part numbers are the same then the dimensions of the calliper bolts will be the same, as long as the diameter of the older disc's are the same then you could probably swap to the new ones. You would need to check fluid capacities etc but I would imagine this is quite an easy job....

HiYa! :)

Have just ordered new bigger front calipers from Henk at Barchetta parts.com, and also ordered the lighter aluminum rear calipers too.

He told me there a direct replacement for the newer style so and easy Mod to do.

The Bilstien B6 sport shocks should be comming along with those too.

Hopefully they will arrive intime for my Xmas holidays , so i can play with the B. and set it all up.

I've got a disks question I've been meaning to post for a while actually. Does anyone know if I could fit larger disks and calipers, maybe the 304/5mm ones with Brembo calipers from the Fiat Coupe 20v or Turbo? Is it just a case of getting some brackets made up to hang the calipers on or am I missing something?

I might finally be able to affford the mods I've been planning for a while next year and I'd like to know it'll stop before I make it go!

I think you need also bigger rims,16" ?

I believe the Brembo conversion can be done as others have done this previously on the punto, if you check out the punto threads you can find the posts.

I believe you will need 16/17" rims and also to have brackets made acurately.,

Its not imposible and anything can be done, but when it comes to brakes i,d rather not play about to much and stick with standard upgraded mods prooven to work. (y)

hello,

anyone of you guys know if it's possible to unblock a calliper ?

The back left one on my barchetta it's blocked cause of the hand-brake, i had to lift that lever with the car lifter to unblock it (the cables are ok).

What could be the problem?

Can be repaired?

thanks

There may be a translation problem friend. Do you mean the caliper has seized? Locked solid?

Steve

hello,

I don't know what to say... you know that the wheel it's blocked when the cable pulls a lever which is on the caliper. that one on my car it's blocked in open position now.

When i use the hand brake, onl the right wheel gets blocked

Ah, now I understand; when you pull the handbrake it only locks the right rear wheel.

The lever the cable pulls is seized or the cable needs adjusting to tighten it.

I think you are saying that the handbrake is only working on one wheel?

If this is correct, I am sure that someone can help. I thought you may have had a seized caliper, which is something different.

Steve

Yes you're right. the hand brake on the left wheel doesn't work. could be repaired the caliper?

Logic would state that the cable is not ok. This is because the lever is seized which would create tension on the cable stopping you from pulling the handbrake up.
If you can pull the handbrake it would suggest that one of the cables has snapped or stretched to the point where it is no longer useful.
