Hello to everyone b owner!

I am from Greece and I have a black b '99.
I left the car in the garage for 20 days without using it and when I went to start the engine it started after the 6th or the 7 th try.

Usualy I did not have such problem as I used not to run her for days in the past with no problem.

But this time when I turned the key I did not hear "well" the fuel pump. it was like it had no power. (the battery is only 3 months old)

After the engine starts there is no problem and all are in good order.

What do you think should be the problem?
Is it the the fuel level was too low(reserve light on) during that period?
Is it a problem with the fuel pump?
Is it electrical?

thank you all in advance

Welcome ,i am Greek too!

The central lock works ok?The cabin light? These will help you see if its a battery problem.

When i start the car after a long time i turn the key so the lights (battery and oil ) come on ,i hear the pump work ,wait until it stops and then i turn the key to ignition.

I don't think that is battery problem as evrything else works fine. Furthermore the battery is new. only 3 months old

When I turn the key the pump seems not to work properly as I can barely hear it.
So the engine doesn't start up easyly. I have to try 5 to 6 times

After with the engine running the pump seems to work and sounds fine.

If the petrol is very low the fuel pump will not sound well if its picking up air, only sure way to test is to put an ammeter on it.

If it is turning over OK then its probably not the battery, given the damp few weeks you have had over there do you have condensation under the bonnet? Played havoc with mine earlier this year where I was only running the car a couple of miles a day and then leaving it, had a terrible case of condensation under the bonnet.

My advice is to start with the simple things and work up, stick some fuel in it then try, if its still playing up check at you don't have damp electrics (as you may be shorting out somewhere and loosing some of the power to the pump), if all else fails take off the bulkhead behind the seats and check the power getting through to the pump (or not as the case may be!!)...

Thanks! (y)

I 'll try and I ll let you know the results.

we'll see...

Guys, I filled up my tank and the problem seems to be solved! Everything works perfect and I feel great.

I'll never let the fuel level to go on reserve from now and then, as it seems that there are some residues inside the tank from bad fuel quality.
f****ng dirty fuel

thnks to all of you(y)
