HEY.

I have some problems with my B.
It's a 97 black B. 183A100 engine. I guess it's a basic one cause I don't have electric mirrors.
When i close the doors i have to push a little on the upper side of the windows, near the windscreen otherway the windows will not fit in when the doors are closed. this problem can be resolved anyway?

Is this car having ABS? when i turn on the car, i don't see any tests for the Airbag and the ABS. It's normal? Does it have a brake-pad senzor?

I'm kinda new in Fiat's . I just bought it.

Btw . how much the Barchetta's eating? mine 25 liters per 100 km. It's way too much. And have power when she remembers.
And it stays at 1000 rot/min.

It is normal?

thanks

Sounds like your car's in a bad state.

It should tick over slower than that and your fuel consumption is the highest I've ever heard of for a Barchetta. If I only get 9 it's a bad day. So, I'd expect to get between 400km and 500km from a tank.

I didn't think they did a Barchetta without electric mirrors!

ABS is an option, which I haven't got on my 97 Barchetta, but you should get a warning light if the brakes are too warn. I think driver side airbags are standard, from the beginning.

The problem with needing to push at the top of the window to get a good seal is fairly common.

Sorry if this isn't quite an answer to the question. I sometimes smear a little Vaseline on the rubbers to help create a seal. I don't have any gap but on the drivers side the rubbers are worn and this helps keep any water out. I'm not sure how adjustable the windows are.

Wouldn't mind seeing some pics of your B :)

thanks for your answears.

I'm afraid that my engine is ****ed up. i'm waiting to get the car in the service. it's taking a lot here.
About the windows i heared that you can change the angle . I have to do that cause i don't want to close the doors (from inside) just after letting down a little the windows.

About the consumption i guess it's a problem with the spark-plugs. But i can't change them alone cause the cable who opens the enginehood broke.

About the engine... it's normal to stay (idle) at 1000 rot/min? Mine works fine when is cold. After that from time to time if trembles at the traffic light, runs like a relic. If not, it's ok. This happends when you don't expect. I quit driving it. Even if i love this car.

It's a black barchetta, with one airbag, rial rims, pvc soft-top, THE BASIC ONE.

And yes, i have the diesel sound for 5 sec when starting the engine.

The tick over should be about 700rpm, when warm. If I remember rightly.

Yes, a good service first and then see which problems remain!

PS. Where are you from?

hi, alexces. well, yes you can adjust windows but rubbers must be perfect aligned because if one rubber is a little off, then window will not fit. this problem is common on windows that doesn't have a frame. will show you some pictures how i tried to fix this issue... i am fighting with this as long as i have barch. try here: https://www.fiatforum.com/barchetta/158490-window-adjustments-2.html

about electric mirrors... strange, probably previous owner replaced them, or there is something with wires problem. how do you adjust them then?

diesel sound - variator  nothing bad can happen, except that sound... replace it when you will replace engine belt.

what do you mean that engine is trembling? is it shaking or rpm is unstable...

did you buy it while unable to open the hood? without seeing the engine?

given the high fuel consumption, and unstable tickover, there might be something not quite good.

You could start by disconnecting the battery... if you find a way to open the hood.
Is it the cable popped out of the handle in the footwell? Then you should be able to give it a yank with a pair of pliers.
If it is broken behind the firewall, somewhere under the hood... the you are going to need a small miracle to get there.. you might need to take the front bumper off to be able to reach the catch... or use some Z-shaped tool

So if I change my variator my mirrors are gonna turn into electric ones?

even with the variator stuck in hi-speed 25 l /100km is way too much!
normally you have to give some welly to go over 14 l/100km

given that it idles at 1000 rpm, and uses a lot of fuel (and possibly lacks power/response when driving) i would have a guess that some temp sensor is faulty (or not connected) which keeps the ECU thinking that the engine is running cold and thus gives some "choke".

I had a problem with strange idle settings on a friends Polo that she'd just got...guzzling fuel and idling at 1200 rpm. Couldn't do anything with it it until I pulled off the temp sensor and found one of those F* ebay 10p resistors that they sell for £25. the magic devices that are supposed to give 100Hp extra etc etc...Once removed the car ran fine.

Hello...

Thanks for your helping.

I'll try to answear to all of your questions.

I'm from Bucharest - Romania.

The problem with the hood was old... the cable was getting stuckd more day after day. First, the handle broke, and after the litthe nut at the end of the cable.

I can't open the hood cause the cable is blocked somewere.

If i change the variator (diesel sound for 3 sec at startup) after changing the cambelt... would be a problem? I don't know how much money will i have to do all of this stuff.

And yes... I don't have electric mirrors and i don't even have the buttons under the hand-brake.To hadle them, i just push on the mirror... it's a tip-tap system... like on low cost cars.

thanks.

alex

lambda sensor could be at fault this gone will cause engine to use more petrol and idle speed problems and start up problems.

not all b's have electric mirrors but are easy to fit. I done mine.:)

hello,

did yours had prepared with cables? or you installed new cables and button?

thanks...

if you'll give me detailes i'll be gratefull... i want to upgrade my mirrors too...
even if it's a bad condition (engine) the rest is like new... new paint and so on.

could you gime me a message with all usefull advices?

thanks
