The engine should indeed smell like you say, so sounds like there's no worries there.


anyway for me it's weird that i had to put 1l of antifreeze after 3 months... and what's the weird'est thing it's that i can't be sure about the oil level... the stick shows me different levels... and most of the time 1mm or 2mm above the max limit...

i'll take it to the service to check if it;s too much oil inside and to take it out.
 
hey!

i took out the oil filler cap and i saw nothing wrong... should smell a little like burned gass? cause mine it does (the oil was changed 500 km ago).

the coolant it's clear... nothing weird at first sight... how can i bleed the cooling system?

The sweet smell is for the coolant.
 
Take the oil filler cap off and have a look underneath, what you don't want to find is a load of creamy white/yellow gunge. A very thin coating isn't unusual in cold weather if the car hasn't been used for long runs.

I realised that when the engine is warm, and the cooling fan it's working, the antifreeze liq level it's a little higher and it's licking near the tank's cap. did happend to you?

should i take out some liq till gets to min level?

why the level gets higher when the engine is warm?
 
It should rise maybe 10mm or so when hot due to expansion, if it rises a lot more you may have air in the system. Have you tried bleeding the radiator, as Robot mentions above?


yes i did that... but seems that the tank's cap doesn't seal well... cause the liq gets out... i'll try to order a new one ...
 
Open the valve on (the top of) the radiator, take off the cap of the bottle and let the engine run.

i did that again... cause i changed the cap of the bottle, the level was rising and the cooler was getting out.

i took off that valve and the liq was getting out. it's normal?

i lost half of a liter :)

i'm starting to hate my b.

maybe i'm paranoid. it's working bad when the engine is getting warm... becomes noizy... i hear it metalic... not vum vum... and from time to time in the 3rd gear for exemple... when i press the pedal... have a interruption in power... like something is stopping...

what could be wrong?

Blown gasket ?
 
even with the variator stuck in hi-speed 25 l /100km is way too much!
normally you have to give some welly to go over 14 l/100km

given that it idles at 1000 rpm, and uses a lot of fuel (and possibly lacks power/response when driving) i would have a guess that some temp sensor is faulty (or not connected) which keeps the ECU thinking that the engine is running cold and thus gives some "choke".

where is located the temp senzor?

seems that when is cold outside the engine runs perfect and when the temp needle gets in the middle, the engine starts to be noizy and i loose power, or it's cause i drive it with 20km/h and i don't "press the pedal" often and the oil it's not lubricating well.

My turn signals and hazard light work when they want... i realised that if pus move the plastic wich is behind the driving wheel, they start to work... what could be? the timer or a bad connection?

It sounds like a bad connection on the wiring.

ya i discovered the problem... behind the unit there is a connection for tuning signals which is moving and i have to do something with it. it;s bad that i don't have enough space.

btw... the gasket from the bypass valve is made from paper. do you know if it's a regular cardboard? or .... i cleaned the valve cause my car was stalling and i kinda ripped it off cause was stacked. and i used a glue for gaskets.

the car is not working better.

i have a question... does klingherit (it's a german name for this kind of paper) it's good for that? it's 1mm thick. I guess the original one is 0.5mm

The B's engine drives me nuts day after day...

I have some question for whom will like to clear my thoughts:

- If you leave the car parked on a very hot (35 C degrees), it starts heavily? like there's no gas in the tank?

- If i drive the car all day, and stop it for 15 min and then i turn it on again... yous hould hear that diesel sound? ( i use 5W40 castrol magnatek) temp here between -10 and + 40 C degrees. It's too soft when the engine is hot?

The oil level after 5000km is the same (1mm above the max limit).
What kind of Selenia should i use?

THe NGK BKR6KC are ok?

I tried to fix my hand brake and i saw that the cables are not equal. The left one is longer. and only the right wheel get's blocked. How could i grease the cables?

By the way... Thinking that the brake pads warning light is burned... i tried to check it. I took of the plug of the sensor (left wheel) and put in it a cable and touched the braking discs. If the warning light it's turned on... than you have no problems :)

When i drive slowly i can hear a constant sound like a wooble... wich comes from under... like a moving exchaust.

On your cars, after the flexible connexion and before de cath... there's a rectangular plate welded on the exch pipe. What i don't know is if that plate is welded on the car also. or it's just there... moving with the exch pipe.

1. Not sure why it starts badly, could be fuel vaporisation.

2. I use Selenia 20k which is a 10w40 synthetic based oil.

3. What year is your car? Early cars used different plugs.

4. You either need to adjust the cables by the handbrake or replace atleast one of them.

5. The wobble you hear could be a faulty wheel bearing.

6. My car doesn't have this rectangular plate you speak of.
