Re: Barchetta problems

Hello...

Thanks for your helping.

I'll try to answear to all of your questions.

I'm from Bucharest - Romania.

The problem with the hood was old... the cable was getting stuckd more day after day. First, the handle broke, and after the litthe nut at the end of the cable.

I can't open the hood cause the cable is blocked somewere.

If i change the variator (diesel sound for 3 sec at startup) after changing the cambelt... would be a problem? I don't know how much money will i have to do all of this stuff.

And yes... I don't have electric mirrors and i don't even have the buttons under the hand-brake.To hadle them, i just push on the mirror... it's a tip-tap system... like on low cost cars.

thanks.

alex

Re: Barchetta problems

all b's have the harness in place you will need to get the mirrors and switch and the fit. biggest problem is finding the harness ends having said that I found mine easy. Have you looked at www.barchettaparts.com Thats where I got my mirrors and switch, very helpful people.

I'll try to look in the doors to try to grease the window cables too.

Yes, a good service first and then see which problems remain!

PS. Where are you from?
hello

i realised something after making 3 fuels till now... the car eats 10.5 l/100km. Wich is great. But i don't know why, at the first line (near zero) on the fuel level (dashboard) in the tank are 22 liters... and at the middle line 30 and something. Could be broke?

The car still stays idle at 1000 rot/min.

P.S. with all these probems i still love it

It is a FIAT ... the fuel level gauge can VERY unreliable (like the Temp gauge, and the speedo, etc ) Do not worry about it, you'll get used to it , just keep an eye on your daytrip counter (if it aint broken) do the calculations in your head and keep it on the safe side... better top-up early then running out in the middle of nowhere

ok, thanks... i don't have the money now to change the mirrors...

I have more and more questions day after day

1. when the gass is empty, the red fuel pump turns on? when i turn on the key doesn't make the test...

2. i have to grease the clutch cable? when i press it while driving, makes a noise... and i feel some vibrations in my foot...

3. do barchettas have an engine shield? mine had one but falled down after passing on a railway... and i don't wanna put it back cause of vibrations.

4. the poor radio signal is cause of the antena? or just the cable?

5. after how many km should i change the oil and filters?

6. if anyone of you have a wearing pads senzor... (i have) should make the test when turning on the key?
7. If i have the ABS thing on the dashboard, does that mean that i have ABS? or all the cars have it?

thanks for your answers...

Re: Barchetta problems

1. when the gass is empty, the red fuel pump turns on? when i turn on the key doesn't make the test...

The 'red' light on the fuel indicator will only come on when you are low on fuel - it will not light up when you turn the ignition on

2. i have to grease the clutch cable? when i press it while driving, makes a noise... and i feel some vibrations in my foot...

It's good practise to keep the cable covered in a little grease just to help stop it rusting. A 'crunch' when you dip the clutch is probably the cable but could be the plastic collar that the clutch arm sits in. I would change the cable first, if that does not fix it then start working through the other possible causes

3. do barchettas have an engine shield? mine had one but falled down after passing on a railway... and i don't wanna put it back cause of vibrations.

Barchetta's have a heat shield on the exhaust manifold under the bonnet and have a couple between the exhaust and floorpan - is that what you mean? Either way I would replace any that fall off!

4. the poor radio signal is cause of the antena? or just the cable?

Could be a combination of both or even the head unit. Start by checking that the antenna cable is pushed into the radio, have a look at the state of the cable where it goes into the antenna body. Mine is OK but I have an after market antenna

5. after how many km should i change the oil and filters?

I change my oil every 6000 miles, that way you ensure no gritty deposits in the variator - its cheaper to change the oil than the variator!

6. if anyone of you have a wearing pads senzor... (i have) should make the test when turning on the key?

Yes and no, warning will only come on when the pads are worn (or the circuit is broken).

7. If i have the ABS thing on the dashboard, does that mean that i have ABS? or all the cars have it?

Nope, all Barchetta's have the ABS light on the dashboard, it will (should) only show up if you have ABS fitted. The only way to tell if you really have ABS is to look under the bonnet at the top right hand side of the engine back, if you have a block with a bunch of pipes coming out of it you have ABS, if you have a gap with nothing in it you don't!!

Re: Barchetta problems

Some answers from the top of my head:

3. There is a heat shield around the exhaust manifold that commonly cracks and then vibrates. I believe improved replacements are available from barchettaparts.com. I would suggest it's not a good idea to run without any shield as things might get a bit hot under the bonnet and the manifold is close to some electrics.

5. Ideally every 10k kms (6k miles) though I think the service book from Fiat says 20k kms is enough.

7. If you have ABS the brake master cylinder at the top right of the engine as you look at it will have many spidery metal pipes coming from it. Also brake hard on a wet road and you will feel the pedal kicking back if you have ABS.

Hope these help

thanks to all of you guys... i'm kinda new in b's... and as a mech engineer i wanna learn about it.

and sorry for my english.

The shield was an aftermarket one... and was under the engine to protect the oil "tank" so i won't put it back if you all don't have it (don't need extra noises".

About the ABS i'll see if i have it... but i don't think so... i braked once hard and i heard just the tires noise.

I still have to discover a noise wich is driving me crazy... at 50km/h... comes from behind and it's like a vum vum... it's not coming from the wheels... i guess it's the exchaust wich is not fixed well...

And i have to find a sollution about the windows... i don't wanna push them while closing the door to have a good seal...

and ya... with all these problems, i love it

Re: Barchetta problems
