The inertia reel seat belts in my 'B' are really slow to retract after I have got out of the car, and are left on the seats.
I have checked the inertia reels and they are both working well. there is a plastic guide, but the narrow slot the seat belt passes through slows down the retraction speed to snails pace.... as this is only plastic I have thought of cutting the top off of this and just use the loops on the top of the seats to keep the belts in place.

Has any one else had this problem....and if so did you have a solution?

Ditto, the solution I found was gleaned from this very Forum. The Doc fitted new belts, he couldn't cure it any other way. I did not follow suit. The slow belts suit a slow geezer so I live with it.

:ROFLMAO: Amen to that!!

I just have to remember to sling the belt inside the car so it does not get trapped in the door...........

I sprayed a little CRC in some strategic places and it seems to have at least improved the retract speed from a snail to turtle pace... which is probably faster than CasaPaulo by the sounds of it. (y)

Ive lived with it since i 1st got the B... Doing my best to be careful not to get the door shut on the belt..

Apparently it's supposed to help wiping the belts off with a cloth soaked in dish water detergent. I haven't tried it myself - but seeing as mine too are slow, I might just try it some day. Then again, I'm a lazy git so I'll most likely just live with it

Thanks for all your replies..... I thought it was just mine.. at least I know we all suffer from the same problem. I'll put my toolbox back in the shed and learn to live with it. I knew I could count on you guys for the answer.

Not sure I agree. My wife's B from new has had next to useless belt retraction performance. Even for belts NOT guided through that Vecro strap on the top shoulder of the seat.

If/when we fail and MOT for this then I will investigate in great detail and find a solution. Till then what Fiat designed and fitted as "standard" will do us fine (of course taking care no to trap the buckle in the door area).

All very annoying.

I don't think it's an MOT fail... the Belts just have to pull out and lock for MOT.

Well, the N.I. test is very strict (they don't do adviseories, it's pass or fail) and we've done 2 with my sloapy belts hanging everywhere....

I noticed yesterday that Henk has a mod that supposedly cures the slow belt retraction problem. A nylon roller.

good to know that. even i lost virginity 2 years ago, it's still painful when i sit down on seatbelt clip. "he" is often waiting me on seat, looking straight up.

Assuming the upper loop is the 'choke point', double sided tape and some emery paper on the seat belt, pass it back and forth through the loop a few times to shave a little extra off should loosen it up enough :) Having to do this at some point in my Pajero as I have the same issue there and it was a recommended fix on the Kei cars forum :)

Like CasaPaulo I've just seen Henk's roller mod - it looks good

. Has anyone tried it yet ?

I've got it.
Does the trick quite well but it needs a revision as it sometimes blocks completely.
