I bought a Fiat Barchetta a year ago which had been damaged in an accident. It has now been repaired, but is in need of an airbox. Fiat say that it will take six months to get a new one. Does anybody know where I can get one any quicker, or of any garages which break Barchettas? Also, does anyone know if it is possible to put an induction kit on the car and negate the need for an airbox. Any assistance in this would be very gratefully received as I am desperate to get this car on the road now!

Do you not find the Filter gets very hot from the head? I have mine in the same place as yours and have been told it does very little unless I can cool the air or stop the heat some how, maybe a custom made heat shield.

I'd recommend the gsr kit if its in your budget, i've got it on my hgt (same engine).

Hi
You are completely correct about the heat problem with the green filter induction kit. I have fitted a cold air feed and removed the old air intake system and am now as we speak fabricating an enclosure for the filter. I know you can purchase such systems off the shelf but the cost is a lot more expensive then the green filter and a few days tinkering around fabricating a few simple parts is all part of the fun if you ask me.

I did find that the engine runs cooler now then it did before I fitted the green filter, this could be because as I removed all the old air intake system its given more space for the radiator.

I also want to place heat reflective insulation tape around the manifold pipes to help with the heat in the engine bay and keep the gasses hotter for the Catalyst.

I did chuckle at the half a ton of plastic air intake system that I removed when I fitted the green filter, It felt like I had take half the engine out.

Hi,
Ive fitted the BMC CDA to my '05 barchetta and its a good job, its already inclosed, has a cold air feed running right to the filter and doesnt sit too close to the engine. Also it allows for future tuning from Angeltuning as this is the airfilter they use with their remaps and you can buy the BMC from them.

Hi
BMC CDA is a real nice filter and i would love one, BUT at almost £160 it should be !! Green filter only cost me £62.00. You should have a cold air intake minimum if using the Green filter, as well as remove all the old air filter system for that little extra air space.

Will let you know how it goes when i fit the enclosure to my Green filter.

Arrr I was told the cold air makes no sence as the only time air is coming in is when the car is moving, and there is more than enough cold air coming in. It's when it's stationary the Barchetta suffers.

Yep you are correct, the engine will suck in air when its needed but this will come from the warm engine bay and not the cold air intake when the car is not moving.

I drive my Barchetta every day in normal traffic and the engine does not over heat when sitting on the M25 car park.
(Engine does heat up when sitting in traffic but never into the red.)

Hi
I have no torque or BHP data on my 1999 Barchetta as I have never had it on a RR before or after any of my modifications. For me the Barchetta is more like the Porsche 356 cabriolet, style and elegance and a classic in the making. For decent torque and BHP let alone a well-balanced chassis, I would look in a completely different place then the world of the Fiat Barchetta.
