Hi All
just calling to introduce myself. I have just purchaced a 2000 Barchetta in blue with 17in wheels looks really cool and goes well to.The gearbox is a bit notchy in first and second, but abit of double declutching up and down the box seems to work well. I have a couple of qustions if I may?
Can anyone steer me in the right diection for either a new or second hand wind deflector.
and I also just noticed the ABS light is not coming on in the dashboard it may be because there is no abs fitted is there an easy way to check? Thanks

Glenn (Manchester uk)

Thanks Dave
I Had a look at the link I shall go down to my wholsalers and see whats available. Thanks Again
Glenn

Hi Glenn, a very warm welcome to the Barchetta section of FF (y)

If you mean the windstop behind the seats they often come up on ebay or you could try barchettaparts.com.

Re the ABS it's quite easy to tell wheather it has ABS or not although being a 2000 I would think it should have ABS fitted if it's a UK model, if it's an import then there is a chance that it won't be fitted. Easy way to tell is pop the bonnet, if you don't know what to look for post a pic and we'll let you know.

Hey Glennnnn, welcome to the forum - good to see the numbers just keep growing!

Give us some more details of your car, mods etc and a couple of piccies always go down well ;)(y)

Barchetta's don't have a servo on the clutch so you may find that your notchy gear change just needs the clutch cable adjusting, I changed my clutch earlier this year and it took me a couple of days to get the adjustment right (either notchy in 1st and 2nd or difficult to get 4th)........the other problem could be the oil level.

As big Al says your b probably has ABS but the sure way of checking is looking under the bonnet, if there is a box with a series of pipes coming out of it in the top right hand side of the engine compartment you have ABS!! Check the fuse, its the most likely issue, that or the sensors on the wheels, do you have a warranty with the car?

Once again, welcome to the forum and may you enjoy many happy hours behind the wheel of your new toy!!

Your lucky I'm bored :)

The first pic (Docs car) the ABS unit is arrowed (note the high brake pipes) the second pic is an non ABS car

Thanks all for the warm welcome I appreciate it.

It seems I don`t have ABS, Should make for some fun in the wet !!!
A couple of other problems that need sorting are the rev counter is not working and also the air bag light is on all the time. Apparently these problems arose when the previous owner fitted a new battery. But obviously I have no way of checking this. Are there any obviouse things I can check to remedy these faults?
I will sort some photos in the next few days
Glenn

The airbag light is a bit of an inhouse joke really hense my sig, it appears that the light can come on even if you adjust the seat back and forth, this is to the extreme and I never found it to be true but when unplugging the seat without disconnecting the battery I did fall foul and had to go to the dealers to get it turned off. It's not an MOT failure like an ABS light so don't worry too much about it, that said it's not something I would like to have on in any car I owned. Rev counter not working I would guess as a problem with the plug at the back and may suggest that the speedo has been removed in the past, but for what purpose? let's hope it's not the obvious so check your car documentation carefully with as many previous MOT's that are available. To see if it's a loose connection on the plug give the trip reset a prod and see if it kicks back into life or dare I say even a slap above the dash (fonz style)

Thanks Alan, I was ahead of you and had checked all the last five MOTs and the milage on the service docs. All seems in order but renegosiated the price just in case. I Will check the plugs at the rear of the dash you never know I may get lucky.
Anybody know of any other B owners in Manchester, I would hate to think I`m on my own.

Glenn

Did you buy it privately or from a dealer? if from a dealer then run it back and request they fix the faults. I thought ABS was mandatory on all UK cars from 2000 on / was a standard fitting for all B's '99 on?

Would also advise a really good independant service and inspection of the car while the previous seller is still around...as B's are fairly simple machines but cost £££ to fix due to rarity and price of parts. The front bumper alone is around £450 from a dealer unfitted.

Welcome to the club.

Thanks for that RB I purchaced the car privately so you pays your money and takes your chance.I can`nt comment on the ABS cause I don`t know. But I did just check the registration doc and says first registered 2000 dosn`t mention anything about being an import.

I just took the instraments out trying to find the fault on the rev counter removed plugs and checked connectors all seems well any Ideas for any other checks I can do ?

Glenn

Thanks for the welcome Doc I really appreciate it. I have read many of your posts you really are into Barchettas ? Any Ideas about what could be wrong with my rev counter? I just checked the connectors behind the instraament panal and all seems well.
