General Raising/ lowering hood

Morning.
Well I can see from Daves photos that mine definitly doesn't fit properly! It does seem to have got a little closer than it was to start with but would still leak like a sieve if it rains. Dave your instructions are a little beyond me, but I'm going to print them out and my boss who is more used to working on cars is going ot have a look later. Otherwise Stuart I might take you up on your offer if you are around? Doyou know how to adjust the roof?
For the time being I have an attractive emergency towel in the back of the car!

I have never had to adjust my roof but am quite willing to have a look at yours. I have never heard of a soft top on a barchetta being out of adjusment to the extent that there is a big gap below the rear window... It sounds almost like there is something missing or very out of alignment - maybe the tonneau cover as Alan has suggested.

Perhaps by comparing your roof to mine it will be obvious as to what the problem is. I'm around this week after work each night so give me a shout if you'd like to meet up (my number's on the list).

Just taken a quick look at your photo's and I think its your roof that needs adjusting, you should not have the fold 1/2 way down the back of the hood/screen, it should be quite taut.

I have to admit I have never needed to adjust my hood so am not sure how/where to start but I need to nip out this afternoon and will have a look - knowing the simplicity of the hood I cannot think that it will be too difficult. ;)

Think I've found the answer Mechelle :woot:

From the first pic there seems to be an adjusting screw (below) that has been screwed back, by looks like it should be screwed right in touching the front piece as there is marks on it, (I know I missed it from the first set of pics:eek:) there is paint missing from the screw/bolt so has def been adjusted in the past. Can someone check their roof and confirm it please.

The cover is a tad low in the mid section but not near enough to be the problem, it's also def not the wrong roof.

Looking again at Lee's pics that has also shown an adjusting screw (below) which would also adjust the roof frame backwards, so would check if that has been messed with as well.

You certainly know how to find difficult problems :)

Thanks Alan! Yes the difficult problems - it was the same with the bathroom! I found a plumber who managed to do all the plumbing for a different type of bath to the one we had bought. By the end of the job he constantly looked as if he was about to explode or have a heart attack and we had to let him go and get someone else in to finish it..

I tried that top adjustment thing but it didn't seem to anything other than turn loosley, haven't tried the other one though so I'm going to ask the boss to look at both of them later, when it stops raining. Just hope there's not a puddle in the car by now!

Alan, the lower adjustment screw will not alter the rear of the hood, it only controls the movement of the front hinging section of the hood. I'm not sure why the hood is out of adjustment maybe it was to compromise the fitting of both the hard top and the soft top option against the side window rubbers. But I think that Shel needs to slacken the 4 large allen bolts and tip the hood to the rear, re-tighten the bolts and adjust the lower adjustment screw to allow the front of the hood to align with the front windscreen header rail.

Shel if you are over in the Crewe area anytime I'm willing to have a look at the hood.

if its only a couple of people, then it cant have been DHL :D

I have great memories of a 'team building' event I attended about 5 or 6 years ago.

Turned up at a hotel in the pee-ing rain for a day of outdoor activities, the 20 of us on the course flatly refused to go out and made for the bar! Director put his credit card behind the bar and the 'indoor' team building began - and from what blurry memories I have of the event carried on for some 12 hours or so............... :D
