I got a Barchetta in UK 3 years ago, which was originally imported from Germany.
I drove it to Spain where I live, and when I arrived on my drive the cambelt slipped.
It went to the Fiat dealers for repair and took nearly 2 years !! (This is Spain) and 4,00 euros to rebuild / replace the engine top and bottom end.

Anyway, I had it parked outside for past year and this week I decided to get it legal.
Thanks to your forum I removed the lights, and switched them over to LHD and it was a very simple operation. The only difficulty was removing the bumper (there are 2 bolts each side on the chassis, and I only found one first time)
The lights all unclip, and there are 2 screws holding the domed light. After removing the domed light the silver plate just reverses onto the bulb cone. You do however have to then flip the bulb cone (and bulb) upside down as the locating hole for the plate is spaced differently.
Put it back together and that's it.
Took 2 minutes per light, but that excludes the bumper removal which took me about 2 hours.
I think a set of ramps would have helped, but I managed on my driveway with my wifes hand mirror and a torch to find those missing 2 bolts holding the bumper on.

I then rewired the fog lamp (white?) and reversing light (red?) so they are back to how they were. Tried looking under the car for the wires but gave up after crushing my nose a few times. Got to the wires via the boot in the end.
Everything worked perfectly, till this morning when the reverse light stopped. Checked the bulb and that's fine, so it must be a wire incorrectly soldered or a fuse, but god knows where the fuses are, they seem to be all over the car with no specific one for the reverse light.

Also looking to replace drivers side front fog light lens, but can't find anything on here or ebay about fog lights.

Anyway, thanks for all the help and if anyone has any questions about front light swapping just mail me and i'll help you if I can. Any questions about the reverse light, it might be better to ask someone else :)

Welcome to the Forum. I'll leave it to one of the others who may have the wiring diagram to answer.

Cheers,

Matt.

Only 4.00 euros for a complete engine rebuild - it was worth waiting at that price:eek:

You are right about the headlights, it's not a difficult job and a lot cheaper than buying new lights.

I am waiting to see if the French authorities want me to change the reversing light, but if I do need to, I will definately ask someone else:D

Good luck

Glynn

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum, its great to see so many new people turning up! - the b is quickly becoming a popular 'modern classic'!! (y)

I have not had to change the fog/reverse light on mine as its a UK car so they have always been in the correct place but the fuses for the fog's are under the plastic trim in the passenger foot-well.

Drop Henk at Barchettaparts an eMail, he will probably be able to source you a front fog lamp lens.......

Thank you for you replies.
The reversing light problem was the sensor switch in front of the gearbox.
16 euros for a new one at fiat dealer, I parked the car on a high kerb and installed it in 2 minutes.
I have removed the broken fog light and the working one, as they are not necessary for the ITV (MOT) but if they are fitted they need to work, and be a pair.
That meant bumper off again because the screws were rusted but it only took me 10 minutes to remove it this time, as my nuts were greased.
That is not a euphamism by the way.

Rusty nuts are a big issue here, although the Doc regularly greases his nuts to keep them from oxidising!! ;)

Hello David,

Apart from the same christian name I also live in Spain - Costa Blanca
Just heard ten minutes ago my Barchetta has failed the ITV because of the RHD headlamps.
I bought the car two years ago from a dealer which raises the question of how they got an ITV without bringing up this problem!!!. But that's another matter.
Seen your interesting article about changing the existing headlamps from rhd to lhd and should appreciate more information to pass on to my garage.

If you like you can e mail me direct - [email protected]

Cheers and thanks
David
