2.0 16v turbo coupe is the one to go for if you want a BHP upgrade at the same time. I would also do all the replacement engine upgrades before you fit it into the car.

Re: Barchetta 1.8 engine Swap

Most engine swaps available in my place belong to Japanese cars.. I don't know if i could fit a corolla or a Honda B engine in these but i wouldn't want to suffer spending $$ on the stock motor if it is a hopeless case...

Well if you gonna go for japanese, the 4-AGE is always a good choice strong motor and always willing to take anything you want to add on to it, they were the most popular choice for conversion and turbo conversions in south africa.

4A-GE engines come only in 1.6?
What about Honda B20 engines? or D16?

Re: Barchetta 1.8 engine Swap

Yeah i know they only come in 1.6 but they are very potent 1.6's and have much potential, or else how about the 20 valves that came out in the south african corolla's (i think its a 4AGZE ) the ones with a 6 speed box

Re: Barchetta 1.8 engine Swap

I dont know if ill find ever that 20valve motor ur talking about, cuz it sounds like a tough engine..
Most corollas in my place come with a standard 1.3 or 1.8 motor mated to an automatic... Ill see if i could fit a corolla 1.8 in the car...

Thanks for the info..

Re: Barchetta 1.8 engine Swap

I think although its a 20 valve it may still only be a 1600 but the black top 4 AGZE is a turbo model the silver top is a N/A type in $agze into google images and you will see the ones im reffering to

Hope this helps

Re: Barchetta 1.8 engine Swap

Thinking about your situation I would get hold of an old Barchetta or HGT engine and re-build it while you still have the original lump in your car. There is a lot you can do to improve the stock lump (depending on how much you are willing to spend), lightweight flywheel, performance injectors, fast CAM - if you are feeling really enthusiastic Novitec do a turbo conversion for the Barchetta engine..................

I have done a few engine swaps in the past but only because the stock lumps were rubbish (which is not the case with the b). I had a 1972 Vauxhall Viva 1.3 and shoe horned a Ford RS2000 2.1 Pinto engine with dual twin webbers, also dropped a re-bored Porsche 914 engine into a VW beetle (OK, actually the same block but that was where the similarities ended)......

My advice, seek out a decent FIAT VVT engine, re-build it outside of your b and drop it on over a weekend once its finished.

Re: Barchetta 1.8 engine Swap

IF you want to be adventurous and dont mind being creative with mounting points (and burning the clutch) try to fit a Suzuki Hayabusha engine ...

it is a small, light 1340 cc engine and gives you +170 HP "out of the box", and if you bolt a turbo to it you can get +300, +400 HP

some geezers have fitted it in a GOLF:

others in a
SMART :

and others in a ISETTA
