I am planning to swap the old 1.8 motor in my barchetta as it needs lots of work.. Though, Im not sure which engine fits in place of the current 1.8...

Most engine swaps available in my place belong to Japanese cars.. I don't know if i could fit a corolla or a Honda B engine in these but i wouldn't want to suffer spending $$ on the stock motor if it is a hopeless case...

Well if you gonna go for japanese, the 4-AGE is always a good choice strong motor and always willing to take anything you want to add on to it, they were the most popular choice for conversion and turbo conversions in south africa.

4A-GE engines come only in 1.6?
What about Honda B20 engines? or D16?

Yeah i know they only come in 1.6 but they are very potent 1.6's and have much potential, or else how about the 20 valves that came out in the south african corolla's (i think its a 4AGZE ) the ones with a 6 speed box

I dont know if ill find ever that 20valve motor ur talking about, cuz it sounds like a tough engine..
Most corollas in my place come with a standard 1.3 or 1.8 motor mated to an automatic... Ill see if i could fit a corolla 1.8 in the car...

Thanks for the info..

I think although its a 20 valve it may still only be a 1600 but the black top 4 AGZE is a turbo model the silver top is a N/A type in $agze into google images and you will see the ones im reffering to

Hope this helps

Is there a non VVT Alfa or fiat 1.8 engine?

Thinking about your situation I would get hold of an old Barchetta or HGT engine and re-build it while you still have the original lump in your car. There is a lot you can do to improve the stock lump (depending on how much you are willing to spend), lightweight flywheel, performance injectors, fast CAM - if you are feeling really enthusiastic Novitec do a turbo conversion for the Barchetta engine..................

I have done a few engine swaps in the past but only because the stock lumps were rubbish (which is not the case with the b). I had a 1972 Vauxhall Viva 1.3 and shoe horned a Ford RS2000 2.1 Pinto engine with dual twin webbers, also dropped a re-bored Porsche 914 engine into a VW beetle (OK, actually the same block but that was where the similarities ended)......

My advice, seek out a decent FIAT VVT engine, re-build it outside of your b and drop it on over a weekend once its finished.

IF you want to be adventurous and dont mind being creative with mounting points (and burning the clutch) try to fit a Suzuki Hayabusha engine ... :D

it is a small, light 1340 cc engine and gives you +170 HP "out of the box", and if you bolt a turbo to it you can get +300, +400 HP :D

some geezers have fitted it in a GOLF:

others in a
SMART :

:nutter:

and others in a ISETTA :) :)

Hayabusa engine would give me a hard time with the cops... But sounds amazing in many ways!!

Any one dropped a non fiat/alfa engine in B before. Payed a visit in a Hyundai Scrap yard... Damn those things r cheap like crazy & they got some real good 1.8 DOHC engine.. Same used in the Coupe & Elantra..

I can understand you wanting to put the toyota engine in a middle east car... readily available and cheap... plus easy to find parts for....

Being a bit of a lotus fan I was once told of an esprit here that was for sale.. I almost jumped at the chance to add it to my collection... untill I found out that it had a toyota engine fitted to it and the origional removed....

To me it's the same thing... why fit a jap engine to an italian classic.... ??

I know you are on a tight budget and can understand why you hate the Bee engine with the overheating problems... there has to be some solution for it....I hope!

The fiat coupe 2.0 turbo mod would do me.... but i have a feeling the overheating problem would get worse....

Well i sometimes i feel that its a modern classic & it shouldnt be tuned or stripped from anything OEM but i also had hopes that the car would do amazing as a long term project... Any opinions about this? Im sure Doc would say build a project :D..

Yeah I had a chance to get my hands on a Coupe but thought the B would be enough in our weather plus working on the B would be easier than the Coupe.

Now im thinking that the original 1.8 16v engine was driven for about a decade in this horrible heat and most fiats arent built for such conditions even if bought from the dealer.. Since i got the car & lifters make a kind of ringing noise when revs reach 2500-4500 rpms.. We disassembled the engine checked it out, mechanic tells me thats a major repair as the lifters have been deformed from the heat + i need a new variator. The thing is i dont want to risk spending money on the stock engine while i could put the same money on getting a better and more reliable one.. I just need to figure out what fits under that bonnet...
