Just bought a Marea Weekend 1.8 (well 1747) from auction. W plate for £750, and much better than the press would have you believe.

Anyway, presumably it has essentially the same engine as my B (and your B!). 1747 16v. So what is the difference that the B sticks out 130 bhp or so, and this 113 I believe it is?

Curious more than anything....

Looks the same, but must be some trickery under there somewhere. Unless it is a con job and b's have 113 bhp too!

It is a different head. I have a ported and flowed head with re-profiled cams for it. The 113bhp engine hasn't got a variator and the inlet manifold hasn't variable intake either.

So the barchetta has a variable intake? Heard about that before, but couldn't find any documentation on it. Can you explane how it works? Long and short throttlebodies?

Not the throttlebodies.
The engine was an all new 1747cc, dohc 16V unit with 131bhp and 164Nm, which featured variable valve timing (hydraulic on the inlet valves) for the first time in a production Fiat car.

113bhp is the official rating, even though they call it a 115 on the badging. Similarly, the 1.6 had 100 badging but puts out 103 bhp.

However, we seem to have an explanation!

Yeah but it's the variator that causes variable valve timing, right. Variable intake, doesn't that mean that it's in the throttlebodies/manifold? (Don't know all the terms in english... :bang:)
