Morning all.

Came out to the b this morning to find the old puddle of water in the drivers footwell is back!
I think this time it is coming in through the bottom of the door. I've noticed that each time its been back to the garage it has come back with the drivers door opening silently, then over a period of time the creaking and cracking noises come back. Last week I noticed the noises seemed to have got worse and now I have the puddle. Could it be that the weight of the door is gradually making it drop so the fit is getting worse and worse over a period of time? Then it hits a point when it is so bad the water gets in.

If I'm right then this will be an ongoing maintenance job for me. Is it an easy thing to do?

:bang: Back to the garage Mechelle and tell them to get their act together or you'll take them to trading standards.....

:yeahthat: you pay enough for a warranty so get the most from it!

It could be that a door bracket has become worn or failed but doubtful, mine does the same thing if I let the spring go dry, IMHO the two are probably not connected. Another place that the garage may want to check is under the wiper cover (the cover between the bonnet and the window). Its a great place for water to collect, at some point mine had an issue with water ingress there - when I took the cover off to fix the wipers last week I found some after market FIAT body sealant obviously put there to deal with a similar issue. Just a thought..............

No I only had a 3 month warranty from the garage and that ran out end of Feb. :(
I think I can see where it is coming in. Under the drivers door about 6 inches from front at the bottom edge. Its been fine since the last trip to the garage, but maybe the odd little drip appearing in that spot. Then today the puddle.

Take a piccie, I am struggling to picture it. Also, sit inside while Mike pours a bucket of water over the door, just to make sure.

if it was parked nose down, and one of the tonnau drainholes is plugged up, the water can actually creep through the sill and thus emerge in the footwell.

The other possibility is a bad fitting rubber on the top of the windscreen and seeping in through there. Check if there are signs of moisture in the inside corner/angle between the dash and windscreen near the A pillar. That is ingress through the seal/drain. (I've got a picture of that, but i dont have 'm here)

Another thing i've found with the hardtop.. sometimes the rubbers at the top corner of the A_pillar/windscreen and hardtop edge are a bit ..eeuh strained awkwardly. If you then close the door, the window does not always catches under the lip. and thus rain can run down the inside of the window. Always check if closed properly, and push the window/fiddle with the rubber a bit till the lip is over the window.

Get the hardtop off and apply vaseline on several hot-spots.

When i got home and told mike about my puddle he suggested that it may just be because the b has been sat outside wearing a snow hat all weekend. Maybe it got the chance to seep in when normally it would just run off?
I've cleaned and dried it out so now I'll see how it goes!

Forgot to add I have seen water coming in from the door area in the past I just cant remember where and what the cause was, after you had the interior removed and replaced they may not have seated the seal that goes from just below the windscreen round the bottom of the door to just below the soft top cover. There is also a little drain built into the rubber from the soft top cover, that goes inside the rubber that goes round the door. Make sure that it's not getting in from that (hope this makes sense)

Alan I think you have got something there because when I examined the door rubber there are 3 drainage holes at the bottom under the door just exactly where the water is coming in. So it would make sense that water is getting into the door rubber at the top somewhere and then draining out at the bottom under the door. Why do the drainage holes point to the inside of the car?! Strange....

:chin: :chin: :chin:  Actually I now remember where I saw the water comming in at that point, it was mine.....

I think there was a rip in the convertable cover seal as as a result water was getting into the rubber and must have gone down that tube into the door rubber. Now thinking a bit more clearly I don't think that water should be getting into the rubber and they are air holes to prevent the rubber from going flat......So maybe worth checking your other seals which can tear when putting the soft top up and down.

Anyone else with a theory on this.......?
