Anyone know the weight of a 15" original steel rim without tyres?

Cheers,
Thomas

Not sure, but I can weigh one in the morning if you want. I have 4 sitting on my balcony waiting for me to put them on eBay. They have tyres on them though, so I guess if you could find out the weight of a typical 195/50/15 (I think) tyre and subtract it, you'd be able to work it out.

Jiggy: Thanks, I'd very much appreciate it if you did :)

Alan: Thanks for checking. 10 kgs? I certainly hope thats not for just one... If so, the O.Z. Ultraleggeras might be a better option after all (4.9 kgs for 7x15"), although a bit more pricey :bang:

Just weighed one of the wheels - it's 5.1kg with a fully inflated tyre.

So what Alan said sounds about right to me - about 10kg for four without tyres, or 2.5kg each.

Jiggy: Thanks again :) 5.1 kgs? What kind of tyres are you using? According to this site, both 185/60-14 and 195/50-15 seems to vary between 17 and 19 lbs, and the lightest wheel being a Hoosier weighing 14 lbs, wich should be around 6.3 kgs... I think your missus might have been tampering with your scale ;) :D

Alan: Fiat alloys weighing less than half of an O.Z. Ultraleggera... I expect to see a dramatic increase in the price for Fiat alloys :D
But if its for just one, those steel rims are heavier than I hoped for (and Jiggy'll need to have a talk with his missus) :p

All this varying info is a bit confusing to put it mildly...

 Maybe I should re-check. Would it maybe have read 5.1 stone rather than kilos?? I ought to find out for sure before I eBay the wheels. Don't want to be telling people the postage cost will be £15 when it's probably more like £40!!

A helpful Barchetta-owner from the norwegian Fiat forum had a set of rims without tyres and said he'd try getting one of his rims on the scale. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from him :)

You're right, although the weight given for the other wheels seems reasonable. Could be a typo I guess, even if it doesn't make sense to remove a digit or assuming it should be 1050 instead of 10050...

He must be an extremely nice guy!

:D

note: 1000 Grams = 1Kg :)
(i know, i know,.. in the heart and soul of every englishman (great-britton), the Empire still exists... but the imperial system is on its way out in favour of the metric. Now we only have to get you to drive on the RIGHT side of the road) :)

OZ ultraleggera 16x7 = 15 lbs
OZ 35 anniversary 16x7 = 22 lbs

anyways, see following extract that shows that 10 Kg per alloy wheel (with tyre) is nothing exceptional:

...
In order to get a better understanding of the effects of reductions or increases in wheel and tire weight on performance, comfort and feel, The Tire Rack Team conducted a Ride & Drive comparing a BMW 3-Series equipped with its Original Equipment (16") wheels and tires in order to establish a comfort and handling baseline, to a second BMW 3-Series equipped with Plus One (17") wheels & tires using lightweight aluminum alloy wheels, and a third BMW 3-Series equipped with the same size Plus One application, but this time using heavyweight aluminum alloy wheels.
Original Equipment (OE) BMW 3-Series Alloy Wheels and Tires
16" x 7" sized OE BMW wheels and 205/55R16 91H-sized Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires
The aluminum alloy wheels which came as Original Equipment on our 3-Series test car features cross-spoke styling and weigh an estimated 20.5 pounds each.
The Energy MXV4 Plus tires used as Original Equipment on our BMW 3-Series are Grand Touring tires which blend some of a performance tire's looks and handling with a standard passenger tire's longer life and more comfortable ride. The Energy MXV4 Plus incorporates an advanced version of Michelin's Radial XSE Technology (which consists of a Smart Tread Compound, Optimized Casing Shape and Optimized Mass Distribution). The OE Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires weigh 22.5 pounds each.

But yes, i still have not answered the question on how much a steel fiat wheel weights :)

but 10,5 Kgs for ONE steel rim is probably correct.

as a sidenote: these OZs are so very nice, pity they will not look good on a silver B :(

I weighed my old 15" wheels and compared them to the 16" alloys. I can't remember the figures but I do remember that the weight wasn't much less for the alloys.

As far as I can see you have to spend a lot to make any serious weight saving on wheels.

Unclechuchu: He is indeed! :D

RnRollie: They're available in black and white as well ;)

Mad Matt: I'm afraid you're right :( Still keeping my fingers crossed though, Ultraleggera's costs a bit more than Barchetta rims...

One original barchetta steel rim: 9,9kg (2 small weights, no valvecap, a bit rust :D)

Heavier than I thought! Going on your Punto, epifant? I'm considering the Tenzo's you found for your Bravo(a?) on my bee..

They were intended for the Punto, yes. But now it seems I'll have to get me a set of Ultraleggeras instead :bang: On the bright side, I'll save 20 kgs of unsprung weight...

The Tenzos are indeed quite nice! They have quite a few colour options as well. I got a shipping quote from elementwheels.com for $350, you'll probably be a lot better off using Jetcarrier (<1000 NOK if my calculations were correct) :)
