Just a few things about cats:

The cars in Europe produce due to the cats as much Cyanide per year to kill 15,000,000 adults instantly.

The cat produces vast amounts of H2SO4 and H2SO3, which are both rather nasty acids and not good for mechanics changing them (on regular cat change the mechanics run the riske of lung being eaten up by the acids).

The cat requires fuel, that can be made at reasonable prices only with additives that are much more harmful than leaded fuel.

The list is quite long.

Surly the most important thing is to make sure that the Lambada sensor is connected and working properly, then that will make all the adjustments necessary re emissions or am I being overly simplistic?

Unfortunately you are. Quite a few other sensors need to be alright too and re-mapping is another issue. Also the effects of different fuels come into play and last but not least a heavily underestimated point has to be right, that the piston rings move freely in the gap, which is very often not the case.
