Recently my b has developed a fault whereby on quick acceleration or a slight jab of the throttle the engine splutters before revving. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have an idea what the fault might be?

Thanks,

Ad.

My car was serviced a year ago, I have already tried cleaning the throttle body but to no avail...might try the injector cleaner. How long will it take to do its job, I only ask this because I use a different main car now.

Thanks,

Ad.

If that's not it check the fuel supply, the B 's (from 1999 Ithink)with the fuelfliter integrated in the pump (those that don't need servicing......?) can get dirty filters, so bad fuel pressure.

Ok whats the remedy if it is the pump, a new one? I take it when you say 50-100k you mean kilometers and not thousand miles..lol

Thanks,

The pump, just take it out, clean it and put it back, Have not done it myself, just know it sits in the tank so be carefull. Somebody on the dutch forum dod it let me have a look.

Yip was done by a dutch guy, I think he used the garage manual to remove the pump and clean it. He thought he had to replace the pump, but after cleaning the black stuff from the filter part (bottom part) of te pump, it was fine again.
By the way it was at a fiat dealer for 2 weeks who could not find the fault. Good luck.

Ah nice one, I will give that a try along with some injector cleaner. Are there by any chance any tutorials on this, or am I asking too much? If you would like I can make a tutorial when I do it.

Adam.

Not sure about tutorials, looks like you might have the honour on that one!!

Other things that can cause a similar issue could be a blocked air filter, split in the induction pipe, issue with the ignition system, AFM or Lamba sensor...........start with the simple and work back.

I would run some cleaner through the tank, give the plugs a clean, check the induction pipe for splits, check the air filter and if its not been out for a while take it for a 40 mile blast......then get back to us and let us know if its any better

I have checked and cleaned the plugs and induction pipe today, TBH its not really due a service yet. I guess I'll have to clean the fuel filter, and check the air filter. If that doesn't remedy the situation then I guess it will be a little more in depth.
Does this forum even have a tutorial section because someone should get onto the admin about putting one up as they can be so useful and stop re-post etc...

Ok managed to get to the fuel tank today, took about 5 mins. However, I can't for the life of me manage to get the white plate off the tank. I took the ring that fixes everything down off and disconnected the plug and fuel line but, still the white plastic plate won't budge. Does anyone know how to take it off? Is it screwed in or a press fit? Help someone!

Send me a PM if you want a link to where you can download the full manual in PDF format from one of my websites. It's a big manual though, something like 1GB I think, so it'd be a lot better if you had broadband.
