An annoying clicking sound is getting the better of me. I can hear it inside the car on drivers side , cant hear it under bonnet but if i put my ear to the panel between bonnet and windscreen its in there somewhere anyone experienced this before, The clicking noise stays the same pattern of clicks regardless of RPM, :bang:

Yup, its the windscreen wiper relay - mine is doing the same thing at the moment. I took mine out and gave it a good clean up about a month ago, it was fine for a while but is buggering about again - here is what it looks like;

Hi, yup mine click's regardless of whether the wipers are on or not! The panel is not too hard to get off but you need to remove the wipers plus all of the hex bolts around the front of the panel and a couple in the door pillar cavity.

I have not sourced a new one yet as I had tried to clean up the old one, as it has not worked I will be buying a new one..................

I watched the guys take that panel off when they changed the windscreen trying to source a relay from the one they are breaking on ebay just now try and do the job on one hit , good work LRB
I keep forgeting to take photos when working on the B and sharing them on the forum

Ordered new relay today from Fiat , £14 That includes the vat , I thougth that was reasonable for Fiat, If you are still searching LRB new might be the option.

Hi Ricky, I just popped over to FIAT to pickup the CV boot and the guy (helpful though he was) could not find the part number of the relay. Would you mind having a quick look on your invoice and letting me know what the FIAT part number is so that I can order one up?

Taverymuchness (y)

What kind of frequency is this clicking sound? I have one as well, and can't figure out what it is! Mine seems to come from 1-50% acceleration. Same frequency on all revs, perhaps around 10 per sec ( hard to tell.. ;) )

question about wipers, if you use the "spray" function, do the wipers follow with some action ? Or do you need to activate the wipers seperately. Most modern cars spray and give 2 or 3 wipes, my Lancia even gives an extra sweep after 5 sec to get rid of the rundowns. But the B just sprays....is that normal ?

I think that is normal for the B - at least I think mine just sprays when you pull the stick inwards, then you have to push the stick downwards to make it wipe. Will be able to check for sure when I get in my car to go home in a few hours.

It sounds as if it is coming from between the window and the engine compartment, next time it happens get out of the car and have a listen under the driver side wiper - I am almost certain that is what it will be. It is not effected by revv's etc, just sits there clicking away............ :bang:

Yup, spray is one funtion - wipe is another! Count yourself lucky, I used to have a mini 1275GT where the window washer 'bladder' was in the cabin and the 'wash' button was a vacuum button that had to be pushed very hard - as for window wipers if they worked it had probably not been raining!!

I can't get out of the car as the sound only comes when I put some stress on the engine. The sound only comes when I have a little acceleration, but not very much. At full throttle I never get the sound. Sounds like it's coming from somewhere on the passengerside.

F***ing annoying! :bang:

Hmmmm, that does not sound like the same issue, that sounds more like a driveshaft related issue..........

But then the frequency should be related to the speed. Extremely annoying not to be able to locate the sound, as I must be driving to provoce it. My father is a very good mechanic, but the sound is pitched too high, so he can't hear it.. (Old man, and all that stuff ;) )

:bang::bang::bang:

I had that same clicking sound i think, when driving to Slovakia it started in Austria as the Temperature dropped to around -5 and came and went throughout my stay, it totally went by the time i got back to the UK, i only ever heard it once before last year. i thought it may have been a tappet getting a little stuck but it's totally gone now and i'm sure that it would show signs of it happening again over the last 3 months but nothing.........:chin:

It sounded like it was coming from behind the dashboard on the passenger side and it was a constant clicking only when moving:chin:

Sound familiar! Haven't noticed the noise the last couple of days, maybe that's because of the temperature. I will check for it again next time I take her for a spin.

LRB: Rev counter and fuel pump is out of the question. Could be the dust cover, but the sound isn't metallic, it's just clicking.

Thanks for the tips!

Lately i too seem to have developed a clicking sound.

It only intermitant, but i think its a relay sticking, seems to only be there when i first start up and when acelerating. havent really had a look, but will do soon.

Sound seems to be down by the passenger footwell or behind the doorpanel.

Could this be your same problem.
