Technical Clicking Sound

Technical Clicking Sound

I am fairly sure that if its coming from the dash area or sounds like its under the bonnet it will be the wiper relay that is under the cover between the window and the bonnet, I know that is the issue I have.

I also noticed a clicking sound in the cabin at low speeds but tracked it down to the fuel pump.

Τry removing the fuses one at a time and see at which the sound stops.That will give you something to start.

LRB went to fiat today to pick up relay they ordered me a relay that goes beside the fuses so dont order that part, while i was there got them to go on the forum page i showed him your photographs of the relay , and he tells me it comes complete with the linkage even though it looks like a seperate part and inc vat they want £215 , If there is a number on the magneti marrelli part there is a chance we can order it direct from them.:cry:

:eek::eek::eek: I think I may live with clicking for a bit longer..... :eek::eek::eek:

OK, re my last post on this topic - I no longer have to put up with the clicking - its gone!!!!!!

But so too has the use of my wipers!, middle of a snow storm on Saturday the clicking sounds stopped, then the wipers stopped - then the cabin was filled with the smell of melting plastic :eek:

I have not checked the relay yet 'cos its too cold and I have flu but I think I know the prognosis! ;)

Checked the relay and although the wipers have stopped working it appears that the wiper motor has burnt itself out.

A quick warning to everyone, if you get the clicking noise don't ignore it - the motors are cloaked in a thick plastic 'bag' type affair, if they get hot they could melt and ignite the plastic!

Sorry guy's, I would have taken photo's but it was pee-ing down, part number of the Magnati Marelli Motor is TGE 428G. I have been able to source one from eBay for £50 (including the in-line relay), I will let you know how I get on and take piccies of the re-assembly.

The job is simple but you need to totally strip out the wiper system!

Hi Ricky, I have not got the relay to hand but will get a couple of snaps later today, the pictures below were taken a couple of months ago when I initially investigate the issue. There are no clear marks of part numbers on the relay :confused:

I searched under 'FIAT wiper motor' as I figured out that other FIAT models built in the '90's would use the same part, economies of scale and all that! When searching on eBay I noticed a couple of Coupe motor's that look the same).

This is the place I managed to source mine from;

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/SHOP4PARTS-OUTLET

I found these, the motor looks similar but you would need to check with the sellers to make sure they are the correct motor;

Anyhow, here are the piccies - get in touch if you need any help (y);

OK, the f*****g wiper saga continues....

Received the new motor a couple of days ago and decided to fit it today. Put all of the parts back together, fitted the motor re-fitted the assembly to the car and woops, the motor works but the wipers don't. Lot's of fiddling and re-aligning the arm etc and still not joy.

Hmmmm, I thought - this is odd as I have put it all on the way it came off, what could be the issue I wondered. So I decided to remove the drive arms and turn the spindle that the wiper sits on by hand and guess what? They don't flippin' move, a little further investigation (removing the plastic cover) and guess what, the spindles are rusted solid in their housing. I would imagine they have begun to rust insitu, the motor has been struggling against the rust and it has finally given up.............

So, now I have to try and source a wiper arm assembly and hope it does not f*****g rain - I am NOT in a good mood............. :mad:

Lee I had this same problem when I first bought the car, but I was able to free the spindles, although it looks rusty once I got them to move the spindles were not to bad. To remove the spindle from the bush there is a C clip, once the clip is removed it doesn't look so bad.

Thank you Bentley, you just saved me £180!! I called FIAT and they want £182.30 but its a special order part so you have to pay up front and wait..........also called DTR a few times but could not get through!

I found the little clip, removed it and gave the spindle a bloody good thump with a hammer and managed to remove it!

I cannot believe how rusty it is, just going to have a go with a wire wheel and can of hammerite..................
