OK, here's the question. Do we or don't we? Anyone here done it? Is the B likely to die a hideous death?! Really want to do it (will get huge amounts of cool points from my son!) but not if it's just reckless and stupid . . . Also, the day that fits into our European tour is Tues 8th April, which is the first evening of the season that it opens to the public - so likely to be busy I'd think?

All opinions welcome . . . .

i'ld advise a chat with your insurance first about their willingness to cover if you hit the scenery and reduce your B to an assembly of spare parts (which we will scavenge :) )

but it would indeed be great fun, thou indeed, since its the first open day of the season, you might not be alone there :)

lol

i doubt the satnav will tell you to slow down to get the apex right :)

I did it last September on my bike, FANTASTIC, dead easy to get to, my Garmin Sat Nav was a help believe it or not, Its a public road but my insurance company DIDNT cover it, so there is a risk. The roads around the Ring are worth driving anyway, the car park was full full when we got there as it had been closed for 2 days, but as soon as you got on the track every one got sorted and after about 1 min there was hardly any one to see,as the regulars were gone out of site, and every one else just settled down to there own pace, there are rules though and you need to read them through. BUt it is definitely worth going, Im going again this year hopefully, the son on his bike and me in the B.:):)

You sure...!?! Have you seen the Barchetta that last spent some time at the ring.

There is a lot of risk involved, not just from the insurance or potential cost perspective but to being ****ted up the back by some half wit in a high power company car!!

I have not 'done' the ring yet (but will), I have a number of friends who have and thankfully all came back unscathed - although they all came back with tales of crashes! I belong to another well known forum and a couple of years ago a bunch of them organised to go to the ring and have pictures of a 57 seat coach going around the ring. Sadly the jaunt ended in tragedy when two of the guy's from the forum tipped their Ferrari over at speed which promptly bust into flames, nether of them managed to get out.

Despite all of the above I would go for it and take it easy (especially if the track is busy), you might not get another chance and its one of the 'motoring must do's' - plus you can stick a 'ring' sticker on the back of your b! (y)

Thanks for all that! Think I'm convinced. It just has to be done :) And the 'ring' sticker is a must then. How tarty would that be?? Was assuming I'd not be covered on insurance but as you say, it's a risk you take

What's an armco by the way??

If you go to their web site they give a price per meter they'll charge you if they have to repair it after a crash.

I've never heard of any insurance company who'll cover you.

My brother did it in a hire van and I must say I'm tempted.......

Aha! Yes I saw that, but still didn't twig as to what they were . . . will make sure I avoid those then :)

Quick thought: You can get a game called Gran Turismo 4 for the Playstation 2 or 3. It includes the Nurbrgring track and the Barchetta (although the gear ratios are wrong) It's quite a good way to learn the track without spilling blood :D

OOo I used to love gran turismo! The original one. I always used to drive a purple chevrolet camaro. Might have to see if I can pick that up on ebay later and get my playstation out of storage...
