Hi everyone! I have just joined the forum and I like it. I've been looking forward to joining it for a while so I thought I'd give it a go! My name is Tibi ( TB ), I live in Romania and, of course, a Barchetta owner. Yeah I'm in the getting used with the forum part right now so the first thing I'm gonna do is ask you Barchetta experts a couple of questions.

-when you fire up the engine (especially when cold), doesn't it sound for like 2-5 seconds like a diesel?

-after going somewhere with your car is it bandantory to turn off the headlights air conditioning and radio BEFORE turning off the engine? (I heard that doing this before and after turning the engine on/off can lead to massive power loss of your car battery and ever the engine won'y start)

-anyone got some PDF Barchetta original brochures?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Yes the b does tend to sound like a diesel when first started, something tells me this can be sorted but, but i cant remember.
First ive heard of it but would make sense as other wise when you start the car again its trying to power a lot stuff that needs plenty of power

Welcome aboard!

The diesel sound can be fixed. The word from FIAT is that it wont harm the engine and can be fixed with a mod. Can't remember the exact details though. I was told the mod would be pricey so I didn't bother looking into it.

Welcome.

Diesel sound is a known problem, have a search for variator and deisel in the barchetta threads. Ususally nothing to worry about, but it's a sign the variator may be on the way out.

Thank you all. I've already uploaded some pics on show off your barchetta but I'll post some here too anyway. glad to hear from you wish I was a bit closer to Britain :bang:arrrgh got the car for almost an year now. Got my license a month ago and since then me and my B are best buddies. used to be my mom's but now it's mine:yum: No too much modified it's got Devil exhaust and a Clarion CD changer. looking forward to buy a new radio which I can use with my Ipod

Hey TB - welcome to the forum, nice piccies of your b!!

The diesel sound is the variator, when cold the oil can drain from it so it rattles for a couple of seconds before getting up to pressure. Nothing to worry about if its only doing it for a couple of seconds, if you want to be sure run some engine oil flush through the engine then add Slick50 or similar when you next have the oil changed. Its key to change the oil regularly on the b, if it gets sludgy or pics up deposits they will clog up the variator which is expensive to replace.

As for lights, air cond, radio etc its just best practice to kill all electrics before turning the engine on, also turning the engine on before lights, radio etc etc

Hope your b brings you many hours of fun!!

Timisoara/Temesvar's Hungarian Alan...only not any longer

Welcome to the forum, btw. MC.

Is your exhaust round or oval? In the above pics it's oval, but in the pics you posted elsewhere it's round.

I know - it's just that it used to be in Hungary until after WWII;)

Thanks a lot LittleRedB! As for Timisoara, the city is on the Romanian border with Hungary (12-13 miles distance). Romania is a beautiful country filled with natural treasures. has to bad things : most of the roads, and the people which I can say now they are ok, since the counry endured almost 50 years of communism ultil 1990. It's now a great place to visit. There is a beautiful seaside, awesome ski resorts ( I've been on a ski trip to Poiana Brasov - Best Ski place in the mountains) where I've seen a lot of British tourists. Spent 12 years in UK myself before moving to romania when I was 13. You won't be dissapointed if u plan to spend a few days here. I'm waiting for u guys anytime! Barchetta meeting in Romania, anyone? :D

To briefly answer your question about the exhaust early photos had the stock exhaust I replaced it with Devil exhaust two months ago. back to the trip: to make u more interested in the B meeting in Romania watch the youtube attachment and I've also attached photos of the city Bacau where I live. It's one of the classiest and biggest in the Country. It's lovely.....and it's location.

You'd better bring spares and a big toolkit; I was in Cluj-Napoca and Tirgu Mures this summer and found the infrastructure to be quite lacking...the roads were quite ok though, even if everybody were only doing 50 in their Dacias :)
