What i would find a very usefull mod to the Bs electric windows would be something that:
When the windows are UP and the car is UNlocked:
-lowers the window an inch when pulling the doorhandle/opening the door
-raises the window again AFTER closing the door

A lot (if not all) new convertibles have this nowadays, and i see that it is very usefull in not breaking the window or de-aligning them AND less change of water ingress becuz the window catches under the lip/rubber.

Anyone any idea on the mechanics and electronics (sensors, triacs, chips, schematics, ...) ? Its been +20 years ago since i really dabbled in electronics of that kind, and i only have a vague recollection and idea on this.

Or anyone know if there are allready aftermarket kits like this?

A possible alternative would be to rip the system out of my sisters 207CC , but that wont work as really everything (folding mirrors, automatic corner illumination, automatic radio volume, etc, etc) is programmed and handled by a central cpu.

I think that this might be do-able, somehow using those indoorlight switches, need to powerup window motors for maybe second or two? have to study about it ;) this would be nice and useful mod..

well, sofar i've found the refnumber for those used in the Ford Mustang 2005 and the T-bird 2002... mostly because googling short drop power windows turns up some issues with American FORD :)

And i've found a german company that supplies anti-trap systems to the industry ... http://www.kuester.net/

i dont think they'll be interested in selling less then a couple of thousands in one order.. but you never know, it might work:
Dear Sirs, can i have a demonstration model....

and while you're at it, can you get my electric window to actually work?

and my central locking..:D

Remove door trim panel, take hammer from toolbox, give motor a calibrated whack!! ....

Well, it worked for me a couple of months ago
and it's been fine ever since :D

I'm sure that at some point in the near future I could be looking at a rebuild or new motor (n)

hm... i was also thinking about this, it should be possible to create some mod like this. maybe is better idea when you open/close doors window goes down for 1 sec and then up for 1.5 sec (just in case).

or if you have remote locking system, those remote controllers have some additional buttons so they can be used for opening/closing windows... one button in to lock/unlock, one to open and one to close windows...

this is the only reason i will implement remote locking, so i can open/close windows from outside... :) :D

Hey all,
this mod is something that would be absolutelly fantastic for the B and actually I have the design on paper!
My father is an electrical engineer and I am a programmer and we have designed the whole thing.
The bad news: I ll be away for the 12 next months, so wont be making any progress till then...

By the way, the first car I have seen with that system was the BMW 3 series coupe back in 1991!!!!

The switch that turns on the interior light is not the way to go, as the door needs to be quite a bit open to trigger it. Same, when closing, the door is too far away when the power cuts off. You will end up slamming the door shut to beat the window :p
You need to install a second sensor and create a small delay system. That little device will then be connected to the window switch (or alarm if applicable) to lift/lower the window.

Take care all, see you soon I hope.

By the way, I just received a call from a guy with a turbo B (300bhp!!!) that wanted to buy my hardtop. Ofcourse I didnt sell, but I did my PR and arranged a meeting ASAP to get some info. The guy has done lots!!!!

Shoot yourself in the foot to get out of the army and finish the mod for us

(y) good man:worship:

just post the schematics...
..we'll work it out from them then (y)

the component list cant be no more then a tenner, i guess that the most expensive part would be a mosfet or triac or something that switches the power to the (window)motor. A sensor that detects wether the door is closed, and another that checks the state of the doorhandles, and a simple pll (maybe even as simple as a 555 or a 4049) that checks the states and thus flips the transistor.
That will move the windows when you open/close the door.

Something that closes the windows when you (remote) lock the car, that should even be more easy to do, as it would require a mechanical/electronic interface (when the door unlocks, give a jolt to the down switch, when it locks, give some juice to the up switch)

Or something alike :)

I feel it is important to make it a "universal" device that can easyly be "bolted in" to the mechanics, iso being "wired in" to the electronics, so to speak.
I mean , if it needs to be hooked up to ECU or to an alarm, one runs the risk on it being depending on a certain brand of alarm/remote... it looses "market-potential" so to speak :)

Not that i'm planning to open up an ebay shop :) I just think it is something we all could use, but if it becomes to complex to build or hook up...

Any way, have fun in the army

maybe a sensor in the door knobs when u pull it (from outside) could lower the window ,and then u could close it when u get inside , but how can u raise the window when u go out ? 15sec delay and auto-up with inside door knobs sensors too ?
how is the progress on this its really a good mob

My car is stashed away in a shed many many miles away, and I will not get to it for a while to check, but as I recall, the window just presses against the roof rubbers and doesn't sit under a flap of rubber as on a tt or beemer etc. Therefore, it doesn't need to drop down as you open the door, which I'm sure is what FIAT intended. However, I can also only assume that FIAT intended a little water to enter the little boat given that said weathering detail is simplistic to say the least. Fine for Rome, not so good in Romford!

oh, and with notoriously weak motors on the windows, having them operate every time you open the door may shorten their life :(
