Big holes in resonator

I noticed I have two bloody massive holes in my resonator (at least I think that's what the manual calls it!).The name, resonator, just makes me think it's an extra part that is to do with airflow and maybe makes it sound good

One hole can be seen in the pic where the red arrow's pointing. The other hole is on the other side, where the second bolt holds it in place. It's identical in size to that first hole.

I'm sure it's nowt serious because DTR must've taken it off to fit my new radiator a few weeks ago and I'm sure they'd have seen it and said something.

But anyway, what effect would this have on the running of the car?

Nope, nothing to worry about at all, in fact when you fit an induction kit you throw it away anyway!!

The idea (as I understand it) of the acres of plastic was to remove as much dust from the air before it arrives at the filter, keep in mind the b was originally built for the Med market and it makes sense...........

Re: Big holes in resonator

I thought it was also to cut down the noise, but in any case LRB is right, you throw them away when you fir a CDA or other kit.

I thought those parts on the mount were solid so a split would have no effect. Either way it's nothing to worry about, I've seen that on many B's including my ex and appears to be a design fault.

Offtopic (Sorry, didn't really want to start new thread )
I have same "problem" and now I'm looking for BMC Carbon kit, does anyone know good webshop where to get it? I have found couple shops but they don't ship packets to Finland..

And then there is that other thing.. Does that 1.8 carbon kit fit to b without hammer modding?

The Doc has the BMC kit but had to move the battery to the boot to accommodate it.........I am not sure if its possible to fit it without moving things under the bonnet, I am speaking to Oldschool about having a GSR kit made for the b - I will let you know how I get on....

Re: Big holes in resonator

The filter I have is the BMC 225 Audi TT filter and thats bigger then the 1300-1800cc model you can get. If you go with the smaller filter you dont need to move the battery or anything like that.

The smaller filter is fine for the B as long as you dont start putting in fast road cams and stuff like that HEHEHEEH
