OOOhhhhh, generally speaking cutting compound and plastics don't go well together!! If you have 'scarred' the surface of the plastic you will need some VERY fine abrasive polish to restore it to a clear state and then lots of T-cut and elbow grease........good luck!!

Oops. Haha always learning

To be honest if I'm going to go travelling round Europe this summer as is the (tentative) plan, I'll probably put some decent European headlights in anyway. So I'll just hang on to these ones till then, and maybe try and polish them up.

do you have shares in the HID manufacturing company?
:)

Personally, i will probably fit them... AFTER the MOT

I cant be bothered about the plod.. if they are out to get you or have to reach their quota, you'll hang anyway.. even if that means sticking you up with one tyre being over or underinflated compared to the 3 others.. :bang:, no its the friggin MOT that is an issue...

i have to point out that overhere (not sure about Norway, but i assume similar) the MOT is not done by your friendly neighborhood (own) garage
(no-conflict-of-interest-here-we-had-to-replace-your-split-handbrake-cable-otherwise-it-would-fail-MOT... Me: Again! you just replaced it 2 months ago, and i never use my handbrake) , but rather by some government paid institution/bunch of :tosser: . And if you fail MOT, the message is not "come back next thursday at 9:15, we'll sort it out"

If you fail, you've got a fixed time (mostly two weeks, depending on what failed) to get it sorted out and represent the car before that date.. and it is NOT a FREE retest. It has to be in person, and preferably with some invoice showing the work done. But worst of all... since is just a queueing up affair, you'll very likely waste a whole day.
And if you fail again, then you are *really* sh*fted... and sticking a banknote between the paperwork or on the bottom of the car no longer works either.. there was a serious clampdown on that a few years back.

The MOT here is done by the friendly Polish bloke who works at the Suzuki garage :)

What a silly online shop this HID place of yours is LRB. I asked for combined shipping of two HIDs, and rather than saying that I get a whooping 30p discount they sent me an "elaborate" Excel file with three jpgs explaining how to fill it out - and after all this work (well...not really ...) all I save is 30p... Not sure I can be arsed getting them - even after all this work

(Btw., you imperialst swine island monkeys should have stayed longer in Hong Kong so as to teach them proper English :D)

Our NCT (national car test) is run the same way. Either they're Ok or a bunch of tossers. I had a stand up row followed by another in the main office in Dublin after the car failed on headlamp aim..after I watched the tester let the tyres down...In the end they sent me a 'pass' in the post but only bcause the girlfriend works for the local paper and threatened to publish the story.

The guy's who do my MOT's are top chaps, last time I was there they were being 'audited' by the men from the ministry - guy on reception made me aware of this before booking the car in and told me it would be much quieter later in the week.......................in other words we cannot let anything 'go' while the men from the ministry are here so if you are in any doubt come back later this week - which I did and the car passed!! :D

I will hopefully replace my right side misty headlight soon. Are the headlight units easy enough to replace? Looking at the HID fitting guide, it looks like i need to remove wheel arch - surely not.

Does anyone have any information on removing/refitting headlight units?

There're 3-4 screws holding the headlight; 2-3 you can reach from under the bonnet (on the head light's back), and the last one is from underneath. I can't quite remember whether you need to remove anything to be able to access it...

Found some pics from when I removed my head lights (and bumper etc.); it doesn't look like you need to remove the wheel arch, though you might need to remove the front screws. Btw., the hole circled with red is where the screw from underneath should go, if I remember correctly.

I'm gonna remove them again in a week or two. If you want I can take some better pics this time around :)

I have never removed the headlight unit so am not sure but removing the inner wheel arch makes fitting the HID's a hell of a lot easier. To remove the inner wheel are only takes a couple of mins and gives you a lot more room to move though...........
