My X reg Barchetta has central locking, the problem is it only locks from the passenger side. It only started occurring the other day. Is is an electrical related problem or, is it seized in some way? What is the remedy?

Thanks,

There has been quite a lot of posts regarding the central locking so I think you may be well served by typing central locking into the search option?

i had a similar problem and changed the barrel housing which did nothing, then ended up changing the barrel itself as i got a new lock set for the whole car and this sorted the problem out.......but my car would not lock or unlock at all from the drivers side.......the key turned but didn't work, now it is fine.

There is a metal clip on the inside of the lock that holds the barrel in place, if this has dislodged then it may stop the lever inside the lock from pulling the rod on the central locking module.

Your module sounds like it is working as it locks from the passenger side so i would not take that apart as i did.....it's very fiddly to put back together

Ok thanks for the suggestion, I have searched the forum but most of the central locking subjects were about adding remote central locking. It wasn't very helpful at the time so I thought it would be best to just ask outright. I took a look behind the door card to find that the barrel retaining clip was still in place doing its job. When I turned the key to check the it was pulling the lever I found that it was all moving as it should. Now the central locking module has been mentioned I may aswell take it apart to try and see whether I need another. Unless of course anyone can relate to my problem....?

Thank you,

My central locking packed in fairly early in the life of the car.

Perhaps a radical, but cheap, solution:

just don't bother locking it. I didn't lock mine for about 6 years. If somone wants to break into it they will just slash the roof and a roof is more expensive to replace than a bit of parking loose change.

:idea: Hi guys,

Just a little update, I know a year has passed but I thought I'd tell you the answer to my problem for future reference.

The right hand door lock has became worn and brittle over time and considering how much it gets used I think this is fair wear and tear.

There are two prongs protruding from the end of the barrel inside the door, these sit in the plastic lever which, when you turn the key, operates the lever.

PROBLEM;

One of the prongs has snapped off which has resulted in the lever being inoperable. (Central locking would not respond)

THE SOLUTION;

A) Swap the barrels over (When do you ever unlock the passenger door anyway?)

B) Attempt to weld a build up of metal and carefully file into shape of remaining prong

C) Buy an entire new lock set

Tomorrow I will try welding, if all else fails I will swap them over.

Wish me luck!

On closer inspection the barrel is unsuitable for welding, so instead I have decided to drill and tap it with a screw. Not as crazy as it sounds. I will upload pictures when I've finished and hopefully it will result in a cheap and easy fix.

He he, it has taken some time but I haven't been driving it for a while. It's going to be my only car again so I'm pulling my finger out!

Update:

I took the passenger side lock out of the door, dismantled it and swapped the barrel over with the broken one. The broken barrel is being drilled and tapped with a 3.5mm screw. When it's ready it will be installed on the passenger side because logically it is obviously used less than the drivers door so will be under far less stress.

Pics soon!

I have almost the same problem with the driver's door locking...hell...even closing sometimes.
The problem appears only when its real cold outside (below 0). :bang:
I have alarm with remote control...and when I open the door then try to close it...it would not close...I've put some oil on the locking mechanism...now it's closing but not locking.
The alarm's remote controlls the central locking and it tries to lock the doors but it fails and unlocks them. Its a issue on the drivers door.
I think the only solution is to take the central locking mechanism and door barrel out, clean & grease them.

That only happens to me when the passenger door is slightly open.

Problem is fixed now... It was the drivers side lock barrel. I just disconnected it as I don't use it at all...maybe when it will be warmer outside I will fix it :)
