Red face Yet another heat shield thread

I got my heat shield in the mail a few days ago (the one in the pic), and I'd like to install it as soon as the weather improves (May 2008?). I just emptied half a can on WD40 on all the nuts I could see under the bonnet, and will probably give it a few more sprays before I try loosening any nuts. Anyhow, are there any tips to installing it? Do I need to remove the radiator (this heat shield looks positively huge compared to the current one)? Do I need to jack it up to access the bottom nut (the current one only uses the top two points, and I couldn't locate the third one)?

Re: Yet another heat shield thread

I have got the same one and I had no problem installing it, but that's me
No need to remove radiator or anything else apart from the old heatshield I also had no problem accessing the bottom nut

Re: Yet another heat shield thread

Take your time and make sure you dont snap off any of the three bolts. The bolts are part of the manifold.

Re: Yet another heat shield thread

B*llocks....it doesn't fit

I can only see two bolts, and they're spaced probably 4-5 cm further apart than the holes in the heat shield are. Strange...

Re: Yet another heat shield thread

Are you sure ? I have seen this heat shield on a few B's. The heat shield can be bent into shape.

Re: Yet another heat shield thread

Don't think I can bend this into shape; the hole that I marked needs to be some centimetres to the side if I am to be able to fit it. Or maybe it's the other hole which needs to go to the other side At any rate, it looks like it's too small

I'll try taking a pic tomorrow.

SS, do you have a pic of yours?

Re: Yet another heat shield thread

Measure the distance between the holes and I will do the same with mine and let you know if there is a difference.......

I found that I had to remove the fan to get the heat shield off/on - I need a new one and like the look of the one you bought (assuming it would fit mine).......where did you buy it from?

Bizarre... yours looks the same as mine
I swear to god that I put it the right way around , but it seems much to small... I'll def take a pic and measure it tomorrow.

Btw., I bought mine from ebay.de too. The sellers name was samcity_de. Same as you?
