Technical Gear box oil

Technical Gear box oil

Good, that's exactly what I'm looking for, I've just bought some Redline MTL 70w80. I also need to adjust the clutch cable as there is a fair amount of slack.

Got the MTL today and replaced the old with new. I after about a mile I noticed a BIG difference, much smoother, quicker changes. I am very pleased! I recommend it to anyone who is fed up with the 'notchy' box.

Ad.

For £33 (two bottles including delivery) you can't go wrong. It makes driving so much more fun and it is ridiculously easy for such a difference!

Have just changed the gearbox oil on my B, went for Castrol SMX-S which is a fully synthetic 75w85 oil. Cost £20 for 2 litres and it seems to have been well worth it. Change feels sweeter already :)

The car has just over 85,000 miles on it. The oil that came out looked 'orrible - although I don't think it's original as there are marks on the drain and filler plugs to suggest it's been changed before. Must have been a long, long time ago though!

With mentions of gearbox failure on here, I wonder if it's an often neglected service point....

Rather than start another thread, today I've had the gear stick out - started as another job, but don't they all!

The rubber bush at the rear had thick, coagulated grease in that was more like Evo-Stik. The bearing in the pivot had also seized for the same reason. I've cleaned and washed both of these out and regreased, also tried to force a fingerful of grease into the front bush but have taken enough skin off my hands for today.

Haven't been out for a drive yet as it's Persistantly Raining up here, but with the clutch down it feels sweeter still!

It is almost 2liters SAE75W-80 (but also depends from the weather).
In general about 80.000 klm but if you fill the gearbox hard, i think its good time to change the gear valvoline

HI,

New to Barchettas, but we used to use ATF in race Peugeots, never caused a problem and it's cheap like the budgie.

Cheers,

A

Thank you HP. Regular garden hose is not too thick then, that's good news. This 12mm hex sump plug key you mention; is that a 12mm Allen Key by another name, or something I will need to get from Halfrauds?

Thanks again,

matt

Garden hose does the trick just fine, after you've taken the filler plug out the hole is about 3/4" - which is just about a perfect fit.

Yep, 12mm allen key. You can get one that fits into a socket for a few quid from a motor factors.

Castrol Syntrans Transaxle 75W90.
Change interval: 120.000 km (= 75.000mls) or 72 months (=6 years.
About 2 litres, filler hole is correct level, as soon as oil drips out, it´s OK.

Btw, I suggest to cut the interval in halve.
30.000-40.000 mls or three years.
Most Barchetta's are collectors cars these days, that won't see many winters and bad weather, so 75.000mls would be forever, and 6 years is to long as well imo.
