Hello,

Can anyone help with my boot catch problem??

I have sorted the bonnet problem of it not closing. My boot often wont close & when I close it often pings back up when I'm driving. It seems similar to the bonnet catch problem! Anyone any ideas??

I have that grating noise aswell, in most gears except 5th! It's a nightmare. I thought it might be something to do with the exhaust. Any simple ideas for rectifying this??

Many Thanks for everyones help

I noticed the other day that my boot was a bit reluctant to stay closed. It's the first time it's done it and hasn't done it since. I traced it to the pull lever to open in it in the door frame. It was just a little stuck, probably due to change in weather...

Anyway I sprayed a bit of WD40 behind the lever and that was that.

Might not be as simple as that for yours, but worth a look.

Inspect the boot for correct possitioning, it might need some adjustment to come in the right possition if it has ever been removed. Second, spray some wd40 on the clip that should lock it closed and lift the leaver a couple of times to make it open/close fully. Then check the contition of the hook on the bonnet. If it has any damage to it you will need to replace it.(maybe this needs some possitioning as well.) Last option is to replace the locking system. Should solve it for good.

As for the grinding, mine comes from the exaust manifold cover. That piece of tin in front of the engine. You can find a good and cheap replacement from ebay.de.

Hope these might help.

hello,

Thanks for that. I will see if we can have a look around the exhaust sometime over the next couple of weeks. I thought it might be somethign like that. Any ideas of how to do it??

Many Thanks

:)

Hey there, glad if I could help.
Get it from ebay or anywhere you like, it should cost you around 25 euros.
Then take it with you next time you go for an oil change and hand it over for fitting :D

...or you can wait till someone who has done it tells us how to do it.
I still have mine in the boot and waitting for someone to fit it :D

You must let the engine to cool down in order to fit it,to hot to do it on a oil change.I must get one myself as it is broken in two places, next to the oil stick
and at the bottom.By all means do not remove unless you fit it again back, everything will boil inside the engine bay(fans, radiator etc)!!!

Real simple to change and anyone can give it a go with a single spanner.
Remove the two nuts on the top of the heat shield and then one other bolt in the middle of the heat shield about half way down. Its a little harder to get at but it will only take a few mins.

Before you start let the engine cool down and put a bit of penetrating spray on the bolts to help loosen things a bit as rust can set in and you dont want to snap off the bolts.

Realy simple to undo the nuts but how the @$%#^& does it get off the car?Looks like i have to remove the radiator fans in order to have room to take it out:mad:  .I tried yestarday and the result was a lot of blood running from my arm:bang: but the stupid think didnt came off.I must take to a garage to fit it :yuck:
