In answer to your questions Doc: 1. No. it is not as vital obviously as the cambelt tensioner. 2. You dont really need a tdc guage as you will have everything set up before you take the old belt off i.e. the cam locking tools in place and the crankshaft at TDC anyway but I always take number one plug out and have a peek/poke just to make sure! 3. Torch! It gets a bit dark down by the crankshaft. Also last time I did one, I took the crankshaft sensor off and cleaned it, gets quite a lot of muck on it. regards clive.

One other thing Doc just as a safety measure seeing as you have not done one before, when you have finished I would recommend that you turn the engine over with a spanner on the crankshaft at least a couple of revolutions just to make entirely sure that you have done everything right and that there is no interference between pistons and valves before you start her up

Good advice (y)

Yes, whilst you're in there. Drive it over here and I will do it for you gratis:)

Cheers mate :)

I did actually look into the option of going over to Blighty to have my car fixed at DTR, but the ferry alone (2 persons, cabin, car) - roundtrip Stavanger-Newcastle - was £400 or more. Obviously that expensive due to it being high season now, but well expensive nontheless

Ordered the parts today - hope they arrive soon (y)

Off to Romania  tomorrow for a few days, so my little B will get a well earned rest :)

Won't be seeing the sun too much - will be down there doing a gig, so I'm mainly gonna be stuck at airports and the beer tent

Must remember to pack my shorts so I can show off my hairy legs :)

Can you take some pics over there road conditions etc (y)

I couldn't be bothered... The roads are OK though, although the speed limits seem to be really low. We drove from Kolosvar (Cluj-Napoca) to Marosvasarhely (Tirgu Mures) - and this being Transylvania / Carpathians - the roads were quite twisty with almost all turns having a speed limit of 40 km/h  - and the straight bits 60-80 km/h . I'm sure it would have been nice to drive there with the B, but it being Romania I'm not sure people wouldn't nick it and attach a caravan to it :D
