Fiat engine management Fiat/Polonez 3 connector to OBD2 16pin adaptor

Has anyone made or seen anyone selling an engine management Fiat/Polonez 3 connector to OBD2 16pin adaptor?

I ask as it would be nice to be able to connect my laptop up for engine diagnostics and faults.

This is the OBD2 16pin adaptor - USB cable

Re: Fiat engine management Fiat/Polonez 3 connector to OBD2 16pin adaptor

Hey Doc,
If you check under the passenger airbag you will find a yellow cable with a red clip connected to a dummy port. This is a 3 pin diagnostic OBD port.
Apparently OBD II and OBD I are not compatible. Even if you find an adaptor it will not work as the protocol of information stream is not the same. Devices and software made for OBD II will simply not work.
At the moment I am trying to find resources for OBD to read about how to develop some sort of software to read/write to the 3 pin connector.
Once I get somewere believe me, I will share it with all.

PS: I ll be very happy if someone proves me wrong and the whole thing is much easier!!

Re: Fiat engine management Fiat/Polonez 3 connector to OBD2 16pin adaptor

From what I can work out, all Barchetta cars pre-2000 only have 3 pin connectors.

K-line ISO 9141-2K and L-Line ISO 9141-2K-L with + 12v power

Now you can wire up the 3pin to the OBD-2 connector J1962.
Pin 7 = K-Line, Pin 15 = L-Line and power is Pin 16.

So by doing this you now have the new OBD-2 connector so you should now be able to connect up a diagnostic tool as long as it supports OBD-1 KWP2000

You will only be able to get engine info as the Barchetta has a connector for the ABS, airbags and engine.

Is this correct ?

Doc, there is some ScanMaster software on eMule if you want to save your ú95. Are you familiar with eMule? If not, I can download it for you.

Re: Fiat engine management Fiat/Polonez 3 connector to OBD2 16pin adaptor

OK I now have Scanmaster OBD-2 ver 1.0.0.0 in a cracked demo kind of version. It works and does not ask for any key.

I also have ver 0.3.3.0 Beta that also works.

When I run them on my PC the software finds my com port OK so it looks like its working

Next step is to get the correct cable and ISO-9141 diagnostic interface USB.

I will have to make a cable up from 3 pin - OBD-2 so I can plug it into the car.

So it looks like you should be able to get into the cars systems. The only issue is you can only get at the engine. If you want all the ABS, or airbag stuff, you need to connect into the other 3 pin connectors.

Re: Fiat engine management Fiat/Polonez 3 connector to OBD2 16pin adaptor

Hey all,
I have made some BIG progress on this thing but I ll keep it secret till the result is good. I am a software engineer and my father is an electrical engineer who has accepted the challenge.
Give us a couple of days.. hopefully we ll come up with something nice.
I have bought the technical paper from SAE for European OBD (EOBD) which uses the 3-pin connector. Those of you with B's newer than y2000 can just get the ScanGauge II and problem solved.

Keep the phone line idle, incomming call waitting on!!!
