General So, I was thinking...........

For what it is worth, I recently came from one of those "better" places (Canada) and I can't really complain. While many things are more expensive here, the salaries are better and the standard of living comparable. Remember that all those cheap barchetta bits from E-bay in europe are in large measure because of the strong economy and currency here.

While I am unsure that many of these government measures are that practical I do believe we have to take serious steps re: the environment - I just wish I had more faith that all this money was going to improved transport systems or environmental related research.

But dont forget the UK government only wants to be at the forefront of the great fight to save are lush planet !!!

(The Iraq war and its aftermath cost the UK almost £3.1bn up to the end of March this year)

WE ARE AT WAR, HOW F**K*N GREEN IS THAT !!! Whats the MPG on a UK Challenger 2 tank ? It has a 1200bhp Perkins-Condor CV12 engine :bang:

If you come back and say we did it to save all the nice people in Iraq from death and persecution, no one gives a crap about Mr Mugabe and his human rights issues.

Its all about ,
Power, money,oil, and control.

:yeahthat: Wot he said.......lots of conflicts going on around the globe but unless the country is rich in resources who gives a............

Such cynics, don't forget that rich resource nations fuel your cars!

Enough on this topic for me I think before I get myself in too much more hot water!

You guys make an interested read, and i believe this countrys going downhill all the time, to expensive and not the quality of life for that we pay in. . Australia is the place i,d like to be one day. :D

I,m a self employed electrician and should help to get me into the country.

So one day! hopefully, once my daughter is a little older and i got enough money and can persuade the misses to go. (She dont like flying).

Maybe, Hopefully! :) One Day! :D

Even the B could Go. (y)

I develop new chewing & bubble gum and then go round the world helping put them into mass production. Not sure I am benefitting mankind in any great way but it's interesting.

On the other topic that seems to have mysteriously sprung up under this thread, I left the UK two years ago. I had no problems living in the UK, it was just I got offered a job out here and thought "what the hell?". But having had chance to compare quality of life firsthand I wouldn't go back to the UK to live unless my circumstances change dramatically. Apart from the high prices, everyone is so stressed in the UK. It must have added 10 years on my life moving out here. You don't realise it until you have left it.

Wow! Not sure this is a clever conversation to join in on but........the original thread was occupation! I'm a GP and no I don't earn £250,000 a year or even half that and I also do a bit of photography. Looking at the replies there are a lot of IT types out there with the old barchetta as their first love....does this say something about the b driver? Is it your analytical mind that makes you want to drive a LHD car in a RHD, rip-off Britain country or are you screaming out for a more civilised and relaxed country in the Med? Now call me paranoid....you probably will...but have we been duped into avoiding the Euro because it will show up how much more life costs us whether it is the price of oil (we do produce the stuff) or new cars or most other things in life? I might go on but I'm too scared to get into a serious rant on what is a bloody good site offering great advice from fellow enthusiasts that ......wait for it.....doesn't cost us anything. Now how can that be? Keep it quiet or Mr. B. will put a tax on it and we won't be able to talk about b's cause it won't be PC!

Thing is Doc, everybody thinks the grass is greener on the other side:(
I've spent my working life trying to find something I enjoy and make money at it.............I'm still trying:(

A GP - wow, what a diverse lot we are!!!

I am yet to meet someone who makes a lot of money and actually enjoys their job - I am sure that they are out there but I am not sure what they do.

I would also like to start my own business but I cannot take the risk at the moment, sole income with a wife and 2 kids - wage slave for the time being I am afraid :(

I did run a small business several years ago re-selling number plate recognition S/W before it became big......long story but needless to say if I could have kept the business going I would be doing very nicely now and driving the only V8 Barchetta in the UK!!!!

Currently reading the Duncan Ballentine book 'Anyone can do it' - very interesting - guy had drive and didn't make excuses for not being able to do something (like the one I have just made about wife and 2 kids).........

Yup, starting a business is a scary move that's for sure. If I were not a lazy bugger at heart I'm sure I could make more money but, if I'm being honest, I quite enjoy the seasonal aspect of my work. Means I can spend Dec-Feb indulging in messing about with my band and living on the money i make in my 5 month crazy period with the odd job coming in the rest of the time.

Working from home can be pretty nice as well. At least I don't have to go into the Inland Revenue (my last job) five days a week and I'm making twice as much now as I did then three years ago. Certainly not rolling in it and when my wife calculated I was spending 144 quid a month on keeping cars on the go I did go somewhat pale.

If your thinking of your own business my advice is definately to go for it. If it's something you can do on the side of your current job then all the better. Stick at it and it may be become your only job.

On a different note, really hope the weather does the unexpected tomorrow. Have a wedding to film in Elgin on Friday and I'm driving up tomorrow. Mr Sun, please justify me taking the B:worship:

Been interesting to read what everyone gets upto in their day job. Although my wife now refers to you lot as my 'weird internet friends' :D

My occupation is producing the woodwork that goes into Bentley's, also get to drive them at track events. In fact the first time I saw a Barchetta was at an event in Germany was offered a lift back to my hotel in one, loved the interior styling, and decided then that this was the car for me. I think as we all know driving a B is very enjoyable, but I also enjoy messing about with cars and lets face it the Barchetta demands constant attention.

Stevo I've been up to Hamilton a couple of times one of my other hobbies is slot racing.

I think most people in their life at one point thinks WTF am I doing here, the job I do changes constantly and never it seems for the better. It's often very satisfying but often sole destroying. They seem to want robots now with no discretion and the decent members of society just don't seem to get the service that they deserve.

The part of the job I look forward to now is the comutation of my pension for a large sum so we can then decide where in the world we want to go to retire.

11yrs and 90 days to go.
