I've been using my B to go to work this week, as my 156 is waiting to go in for it's MOT.

I made the mistake of having the roof down one afternoon. After 20 miles or so of the M62 I couldn't take anymore and had to put it back up.

Would a wind deflecter make much difference? If so has anybody got any recommendations? There seem to be a few different ones on Ebay.

My X1/9 is fine with the roof panel off at motorway speeds so I just assumed that my B would be the same. I'd like to use my B for work on sunny days with the roof down and still be able to breathe;)

The wind deflector is still available from dealers but I have seen great deals on ebay from suppliers in germany. The speaker box was an option for two more speakers that sit behind the seats to give better sound when the top is down.

What's the problem without the deflector? Is it the noise or the wind?

It's a genuine question, I've driven home from the south of France without a wind deflector and didn't have a problem.

well I think it looks nice 2.

It's the wind:) Driving over the M62 is a pretty exposed route though and probably windier than most. A lot of it was probably side winds. But anything I can do to cut it down a bit is worth a try.

Fair comment. I have driven from Glasgow to London with the top down too, but this is my first soft-top, so maybe I just assumed that this is how they are.

I have suffered from a little neck ache on cold days, due to drafts from the back.

I might think again about getting a deflector, having read this thread.

Cheers,

Matt.

It makes quite a difference not just for the blowing of wind but also the noise. It is much easier to hear the stereo or have a chat at speed with the windstop in. I am curious how well the perspex ones with the roll bars work as I think that is quite a sharp look.

Definitely recommend the deflector. My B had one already fitted when I got it, or I'd probably never have chosen to get one, but it makes a huge difference. Know I'm a girly and part of the benefit is that my hair doesn't get blown to bits, but I really find it makes it much more manageable to drive long distances with the top down. Did MK to Croydon, then Chichester, then Southampton and back to MK on Fri/Sat and had the top down the whole time - was great!

Anyone have a cure for burnt shoulders?? :)
