I knew it wouldn't stay under wraps for long
It says towed on a trailer so hopefully they mean a proper trailer with the front wheels off the ground, otherwise the box will be mush again. Was going to message them tonight and check

Re: Cheap Selecta, with an expensive gearbox! [L581 DPH]

It was already on my watch list, just out of academic interest!

@homeward I've really become quite smitten by my Uno Selecta. This is quite a revelation for someone who generally dislikes automatics and would never plan on buying one.

I've been hoofing around in the Uno all week & I think I may know why I like it. It could be the roaring noise when you accelerate, but no, I think it's because it does what you want it to (like a manual). To explain, it doesn't have some dozy gearbox imp deciding to change gear at completely the wrong time & reluctantly kicking down just as the moment has passed - the Selecta just winds those elastic bands up and howls forward when I want it to! For a relatively underpowered nose heavy car the Uno can definitely keep up with the traffic - it's only a little 1116cc 60bhp unit but on my test track tonight (running late) it wound itself up to a significant speed!

This is why I'm watching Panda Selecta's, and why I'd be buying one if I needed another Panda.......

I saw this come up myself. It doesn't actually say what's wrong with it which makes me wonder. Doesn't look in too bad of a condition either.

It certainly seems to just happen!

It doesn't help that they always need rescuing from the scrappie/a yoof/invading Daleks, or whatever. A bit like a kitten they sit and look at you & you feel sorry for it - it's game over at that point!!

I guess it could need trailering away because of the spongy brakes, but it does make you wonder if he'd like it that way because you won't notice the dodgy gearbox till you get home.

Have to agree, the brakes must work or it wouldn't have a fresh MOT would it?

Re: Cheap Selecta, with an expensive gearbox! [L581 DPH]

I recognise this car, in fact the seller bought it from me in Oct 2012.
As I recall it had 3 previous owners before I bought it, there was as the seller says documentation showing a full CVT box refurb from a Fiat garage and the car drove very well indeed. I always thought that there had been some body work carried out on the front end as the colour match was very slightly out but the panel fit was good.
There was a small amount of paint bubbling on the rear wing and the brakes were fine when i had it.
I did take it to one of the shows at Thoresby and recall both Vern and Gavin having a look around it, they might remember and be able to give some more info.
I think I still have some photos of it from my ownership if anyone is interested.
He did tell me it was to be towed behind his Camper and if he does trips to the Sahara!!! then, as has already been pointed out, the method of towing would need to be confirmed.

Oh it's that one is it? Yes I remember it looked very well cared for and tidy - obviously the gearbox was fine then!

I don't know where the photos are lurking - on the Thoresby thread I guess if I could be bothered to hunt for it.........

Wow! Well I wouldn't have recognised it from the current pictures, it was a beauty when doctyler had it.
I did message the owner at the weekend asking what the condition of the gearbox was like but have received no relpy.

Thanks for trying -- on behalf of all Selecta owners (including @Panda Mo...).
