It's a 1.3 diesel, as per DVLA check.

Me----------------------------bargepole----------------------->FIAT diesel

No service history? There's not a bargepole long enough.

OK let's take a step back here :)

1.3 diesel = 1248cc which to some people would be seen as a 1.2

No service history? Well it is a cat d and it's extremely unusual for any service history to be passed on with a car that's been written off. It could have been serviced far more than some cars which come with the minimum service history.......

Fiat diesels are generally very reliable units and there have only been a few reported issues on here and if an engine goes, then people are usually straight onto a forum to vent.

If you want a diesel and want a cheap way of getting one (bearing in mind it's a cat d so it's had a minor shunt) then this is probably as good as any.

Get it serviced straight after you get it if you've got any doubts about it :)

35k on a five-year old diesel, no service history? You'd need your bumps feeling, Daniel.

Diesels are OK-ish if you do the mileage to justify buying one, and a liability if you're just pootling to the shops and back.

That 1.3 FIAT unit's a dog.

You need to go to specsavers my friend :) This thing could have had fantastic service history before, better than the minimum that Fiat require....... This isn't the 70's with engines which die regularly a few years after the warranty expires, personally I wouldn't buy this as I simply don't like diesels and I don't like a car that's been "fixed up" to someone elses tastes with horrid wheels and black trim on the rear bumper that's been painted over, but if you want a dismal 500 and don't want to pay full whack then it's probably as good a car as any.

…and buy the same rose-tinted glasses that you’ve got on there? :)

…and it could have oil like treacle.
personally I wouldn't buy this as I simply don't like diesels
I’m no fan of them myself…BUT…I drove 1.7D Astras through the 80s and 90s, up to 130k on them and they never missed a beat. I’ve “inherited” a 2-year old 1.3-powered Combo with 26k on the clock that had had its a*se caned by a 21yr old, and it runs like a bag of spanners. Our garage just shrugs and says they’re nothing but trouble.

And a car that's been serviced by Fiat or an independent could have the wrong oil in it.

Yes it would be better to have a car that's got a good service history and has actually been serviced properly, but the price on this one will be lower than cars of a similar age which haven't been written off. You pays your money you makes your choice.

Personally I wouldn't have a diesel 500 because I don't like dismals in small cars.
