Why cant it be ran in 4x4 on the road?

If you look up the various types of systems you will see that unless there is a certain amount of slip...ie ice, mud, snow etc....you will get torque windup and crabbing. This will break most of the components pretty quickly.

This applies to my Toyota too...only in 1996 did Toyota sort this problem out with a centre diff.

The fiat system is as basic as they come.

ahh Right i get you :) i thought that was just on the new panda , and not the old (Y)

think a 16v panda would be awsome :p

There are 16v pandas out there...and yes they are great. Lots of info on here about 8v and16v conversions. Lewey a member here has YouTube stuff on track days showing him blowing away modern stuff.

ill have the white one please.. ya know... non sisley one.. hehehe i'd have fun with that.

also a little panda fun fact: the fiat panda was the first road going production car to be fitted with a 4x4 system.

you could make the car drive in 4x4 mode all the time, but you would have to cook up some fancy free wheel clutch thing to separate the front wheels from the back.

theres also the gearbox to think about too.. anything more than the 999cc engine's power could shred it to bits :(

Jon I think you mean the first production car with a transverse engine and 4x4, it certainly wasn't the first production car!
