That croma is been for sale for absolute ages...is simply the worst engine/auto gearbox combination...2.2 petrol engine also wont be cheap to tax
if this had diesel engine would be already sold now...

Presumably he's hinting that he'll sell for £2k which is a cracking price, even if it is a petrol.

If I was Croma hunting I'd prefer this over a diesel at this price. You can get an LPG conversion for about the same as the price difference (£800-ish), and have slightly lower running costs than a diesel, as well as not having a DPF, EGR and all the other Euro IV gubbins.

I've found the flaw in my otherwise brilliant plan - the price of a tax disc...

1.9D Manual = 160 = £170
1.9D 16v Manual = 161 = £170
1.9D 16v Auto = 187 = £250
2.4D Auto = 212 = £270
2.2 Manual = 204 = £270
2.2 Auto = 229 = £460

Ouch. Thanks to the bizarre VED bands, that car's pretty much worthless.

Good thinking about gpl but i will never feel safe with a gas bottle in boot...
Egr can be easily blanked and dpf taken off
I still rather have a diesel than petrol but is a personal choice as i do many miles
the only petrol car that i would consider is the alfa v6 gta! For weekends only!!

Ouch...i knew was expensive on tax but £460 is a lot...webuyanycar.com only option for that croma i think...would gpl change the tax class at all??

I don't think so, the tax is based on what emissions it had when new. Plus you can still use petrol after an LPG conversion anyway (and you have to when you can't find an LPG filling station). I don't think you get a huge LPG range anyway, so it's a crap idea all in all!

There will probably be a lot of 2.2+ cars scrapped long before their time due to the incredible way that VED ramps up.

The only way I could justify paying that much road tax, was if I had a supercharged V8 connected to my right foot!! :D The 1.8 would be the best choice, if you could live with the major lack of power - the Croma is a heavy beast! On paper it has the same consumption as a 2.4 mJTD, without the aforementioned problems.
