Coronavirus - The Thread :(

Why are all the News programmes interviewing the hard done by sado's 'Oh I had a great Christmas planned but now it's been ruined' kind of interviews.

Do what your supposed to do and hopefully your family will come out of this, then you can party next year (maybe) don't and sadly many more will lose their lives.

GET A GRIP for crying out loud :bang:

If the press and media went all sensible that wouldn’t make so dramatic news, simple. The press has a lot to answer for, depending which newspaper, all and sundry are covered and blamed. Christmas what ever way you think what it is, is not cancelled, it’s just going to be a bit quieter, well should be.

Personally for me, over the years Christmas and all it contains means less and less. Personally, I think it may do some people good to indulge less and not spend hundreds on little Jonny or Jenny. Christmas as we know it, is a mish mash of things and is an excuse for over excessive eating, drinking, what have you. Don’t get me wrong, it is good to catch up with family and friends, but for one year and one year only, keep things on a low burner. You may just save a love ones life, maybe others. For some that’s seems impossible, these selfish people will please themselves come what may, unfortunately.

A merry Crimbo and a snappy new year, unfortunately some may not make it coming out the other side

You wonder how many 'home delivery slots'
Will need redirecting from Depots in London to Depots 200 miles away...

Where Im based for work has a low Covid case rate compared to where I live

I saw my 1st couple of 'anti.maskers' this weekend in a rated area of 200/100,000

This doesnt appear to be a rarity where the rate is 1000/ 100,000

And there we are attempting to stifle this virus :(

Dave, of course you are quite correct.
Boris & his merry men are not without a fair bit of blame for incompetence and poor decision making, let many die so business can go on, until its too late of course.
They also credit the public with an undue amount of common sense!!
I also think our press do a poor job covering what lockdowns are happening in Germany, France etc..
At least we aren't these poor people in the US just now. Have they lost twice their Vietnam death toll yet and without all the protests of the 60s and 70s!

The fault lies with these spreaders - not wearing masks, not keeping distance and not being super diligent over cleaning hands and not touching surfaces incl. nose and mouth etc.

A fair few years ago we did quite a lot of cruising. Mrs J's best friend and her husband were heavily into it and we made a foursome of it - I think we did 16 or 17 over the space of around 10 years. Unfortunately the "big C" claimed her friend a couple of years ago and it's just not the same without her now so we haven't been on one since. However I have to say, if you've never been on one of those big boats to somewhere interesting/exotic/adventurous you really really should try one - It's an experience like no other.

The reason I mention this is that we had one cruise where a virulent tummy bug affected a fair number of our fellow passengers - luckily we didn't catch it. However we were all taken, in groups widely spaced (a bit like social distancing) to the ship's theatre and instructed in how best to avoid infection. A large part of this was around hygene. So, hand washing and not touching surfaces. Ever since, when in public areas, I have avoided touching handrails and I will either use a shoulder to open a door or pull a sleeve over my hand. When you become aware of these little actions it becomes second nature and very easy to do. It's a way of life for me now.

But we are not in a Lockdown nationally..
Why would lorries get stuck ?

Are you thinking back to the Lombardy fiasco of February / March ?

other countries want to keep the new virus strain out, even though they haven't tested for different strains in their countries, so could have came from them in the first place.

As the hub of the newly mutated virus is in the south east corner (Kent-Folkestone; Essex-Harwich; London-Heathrow/Eurostar) it is indeed likely that the new strain has come from abroad.

However, as our scientists discovered it (or were the first to go public?) we will collectively have to shoulder the blame......makes Brexit timing rather ironic!

From a global perspective, it's perfectly natural and reasonable to want to contain this on an island nation whilst the implications of the new strain are worked out.

Unfortunately I suspect that, wherever its origins may have been, it will by now have seeded globally.

Shutting the boarders is the perfect opportunity for europe to make a point about what will happen if the uk doesn’t make a deal. It’s not really clear why stopping traffic leaving the uk will stop the new strain getting to Europe (assuming it’s not already there) but with days left till the brexit negotiations come to an end and with no deal in sight, it’s a great way for europe to say “this is what’s coming if you don’t make a deal”

OR for UK to say "this is what's coming if you don't give in to our demands".
It's 50/50 in truth and it's a great pity to have the Brexit situation on top of Covid.
Other Years this was the time for Brits to pop over to France to buy some French Cheese and Wine.
Also for French to pop over to London for Shopping and enjoy the Decorations.
Take care everyone.

Harwich is east not south east. no where near enough boats operating out of Harwich though crossing takes much longer.

The eu have somehow managed to ban the UK free movement travelling to other member countries now we have this new strain

It's not the EU that's banned travel to and from the UK, it's individual Member States, exercising their sovereignty, as they are able to do under EU law in circumstances such as these (and as the UK could have done, back in the Spring, rather than using the EU as an excuse to delay imposing a travel ban).
