if it thickens the blood wont they just give the patient warfarin to thin it down again
As I said its a very simple way of trying to explain something very complicated.
Sepsis (and its thought that covid causes a viral sepsis) leads to a condition called Disseminated intravascular coagulation, where the blood initially clots, (you use up all your platelets which causes clotting) and then this leads to uncontrollable bleeding as your blood will no longer clot without sufficient platelets.
Warfarin works on Vitamin K and the clotting factors derived from vitamin K, so without platelets and having had a load of warfarin, you're going to have and even more serious problems with uncontrollable bleeding.
