In the village and surrounding area up here we are very lucky, but I suspect in the Cities will be different. Sadly things will only appear later and things may start all over again.

The story from Australia about more adapted to humans is an old story. I read this over a month ago, and somewhere in YouTube is a Sky News Australia report on it. I heard it first on Radio 2.

It's been amazingly quiet down here, but to be fair I've not been into town. On a normal Saturday nite, there's a fair bit of traffic, but today has been pretty standard Covid quiet.

I live on the outskirts, but on a hill so I can see down to the town. Lots of flashing blue lights out last night which suggests much drunken idiocy happening again

Re: Coronavirus - The Thread :(

Big queue outside one of the Wetherspoons in Peterborough yesterday at 5pm. I guess the place was full and they were running a 1 in, 1 out system. I'm not that desperate myself and can't see the attraction. Home for a glass of sauv. blanc, packet of crisps, Absolute classic rock on the radio and feet up on the patio - laaaavly!

Re: Coronavirus - The Thread :(

quite rural where I am but a few pubs seem to have come back to life, with a small number of people smoking outside and lights on inside, carparks which have been empty for months now have cars in them.

Also noted a steady increase in the traffic in the last few weeks.
When I first went back to work I could do my 22 mile journey without stopping and no resistance on the road, now there are a lot more cars, not quite rush hour traffic but maybe 60 - 70% of normal traffic.

Re: Coronavirus - The Thread :(

Country pubs around Teign Valley and Dartmoor had some cars in car parks with a few folks sat outside but certainly not what you'd expect this time of year.

Re: Coronavirus - The Thread :(

went to my barbers today, appointments only now. no mask no haircut, only 3 seats for waiting and set well apart, disposable capes that he want happy about as bad for environment but seems better idea than everyone sharing the same one. He said the 2l bottle of barbercide the blue stuff they wash combs and stuff in has gone up from £15 to £60 and everywhere has old out locally.

When i got home and put news on, hairdressers on there were all still using same cape for all customers.

Sorry for the disappearance chaps, I've been trying to sort out my visa for the last few weeks - it expired 3 hours ago

Luckily though, the good people at immigration agreed to extend it for 30 days due to the ongoing situation in the UK, so I'm sorted until August 6 at least.

Taiwan has relaxed mask restrictions now, you only need to wear them when you enter the subway barriers and can take them off once through. I think that's due to the bottlenecks there.

Still seems kinda pointless though - we've been 3 months now without a local infection.

It seems like tourists won't be allowed in until next year though, so I have to try and string this out as long as possible - if I leave I can't get back in.

I had thought about going to Thailand - but they require visitors to quarantine for 14 days (Which is ok) - in a government designated hotel (even if you have an apartment) - that just happens to be one of the most expensive ones there is ... total scam, obvious kickbacks going on there.

The pacific rim countries seem to have handled this much better than the west, with just the right amount of carefully thought through intervention.

Here the leaders on both sides of the political divide run around like headless chickens, alternating between doing not enough and doing too much and destroying just about everything (except for the virus) in the process.

I think we are now about to discover it is much harder to restart an economy than it is to turn it off.

can you not pay for a test to bypass quarantine like you can here?
