Coronavirus - The Thread :(

Update: Lockdown again in county Gütersloh. I'm living in a neighbour county. I hope they won't lock us down too.
The coronavirus danger is not a bit over.

Update: The 2nd lockdown is coming up: County Warendorf is affected, the 1st neighbour county. I'm awaiting mine to be affected in the next days.

Another meat producing factory near Oldenburg seems to develop the next Corona-hotspot. The 2nd Wave is coming, i guess.

Corona unveils what is going wrong.

looks like a lot more will be able to open soon
2m rule will be eased where it can't be maintained but you must be seated to be served in pubs, eateries etc.
B&bs, cottages, campsites and caravan parks can also reopen, and people in england will be free to stay away from home overnight for the first time since lockdown began. There is no mention of tents so i presume this means self sufficient camping only.
Oh, and you will be able to get a haircut!

Can’t argue with what’s being said, a second virus appearance is on the cards. I still cannot believe how some have basically ignored advise given right from the start both North and South of the border. Now that a wee change is imminent, more and more people are using this as an excuse to do what they want.

People who say they are confused by the advise given are just plain selfish and just using this as an excuse plain and simple. They know full well what they are doing. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say what is the best way to be, a big chance of being dead, or would you be better off alive.

At the start of lockdown, some neighbours gained a resident. Boyfriend of the nearly 17 yr old daughter. About a fortnight ago, he disappeared, presumably went home.
Today he's sitting in the garden with the rest of the family, all closer than 2m. Hopefully the rest of his family are not planning on 'buddying' with any other household, unless he's back to stay.
Downside is the noise levels from their garden today, 6 of them all trying to talk at once, so the volume just keeps increasing. Need a firehose.

Feel for you PB, of no help to you at all, no neighbours living in the house next door to us. Other neighbours are our age or older so quite sedate. Not really a problem but the noise at the moment is lawnmowers and chainsaws echoing through the village through the day at times.

Omg Jim ! Are your neighbours with chainsaws "dealing" with the nieghbors mowing at inconsiderate mowing times?

well, all this easing and my doc says I am to remain in isolation...….maybe he doesn't like me!

I was taught to use a chainsaw safely, many years ago. The son of a friend worked on a farm, and used them all the time. A large tree had been felled, and needed cutting up. There were three chainsaws, the lad, 16 years old, but the size of a large tree himself, his dad (my friend) and me. The large chainsaw had a blade over 2 feet long. I couldn't even lift it off the ground. The lad wielded it like it was a toy. The medium chainsaw his dad used. I could lift it, could carry it around, but no way would I be safe to use it. I got the little one, a 12" blade, and the task of trimming the little branches. Still need to use safely.

A few years ago, when a small tree in our garden needed taking down, I tried to hire a chainsaw. Nope. Local hire company said that following an incident in Birmingham, where a woman took her own leg off, and the hire company were found liable, they no longer hired out chainsaws unless you had a certificate. Gaining a certificate at the local college would cost more than buying a chainsaw from B&Q. However a friend had a small electric one. Took the tree down in just over an hour. Tree trunk was about 4" diameter, tree was about 12' tall and about 10' diameter across the branches. Just over an hour to reduce it to a trailer of wood. Great fun. At that time I could have happily moved on to the neighbours.

While on the topic of chainsaws - I have a need for a small one for tree work in the garden, but every time I am tempted, I realise I value my own health and safety just a bit more than the saving in labour. But if Portland Bill needs to do more tree work, a good alternative, and a lot safer is a cordless reciprocating saw. Cheaper than a chainsaw, and you can get a 10" blade that will rip through a tree, and you can even use them one handed for the awkward placed branches

But can it be used to completely dismantle a neighbour ready for easy disposal?:D

This morning, the cat is a prime candidate. She seemed to think I was going to get up at 4:45, and continued to shout at me through until 6am! Now she thinks I'm going to make a fuss of her. Not very bright!

Yes reciprocating saw would meet the neighbour need. A cordless version would be much safer than a corded version in the bathroom too(safer for the operator that is) keep the blade speed down to reduce clean up. Blade for green wood.

Sir............Step away from the cat!

I definitely have a cat who is a close relative of your cat, very vocal, very insistent, very persistent.

Of course you will make a fuss of your cat sooner or later, she knows that :)

at the risk of going even further off topic.
What i find strange is you cant hire a chainsaw without some sort of certificate. But you can just buy one online.
This makes no sense to me, if you hire one the hire place could advise all the safety stuff you need to know and wear. You wont get that if you buy one on line.

Doctor being interviewed this morning ,
Talking with someone at a 2metre distance for 2 minutes carries the same risk as talking to someone at 1 metre for 6 SECONDS.

This is what happens when we live it a world that rewards stupidity when people have accidents that were there own fault

I should have said about working Forrests on the outskirts of our village, sound travels for miles, especially at the moment when things are really quiet. We also have a chap who sells firewood, he fires up the chainsaw from time to time. Not forgetting there are a few locals who cut wood themselves. I have a chainsaw myself, although it’s in the hands of my son-in-law. I used to cut wood myself, but of late with being in and out of hospital the last few years, I thought it best to shelve the Lumberjack for the foreseeable future. :D

Is this risk in any way reduced if:

a) One of them is sitting down and sulkily being passed an overpriced re-hydrated Chardonnay?

b) They need to get past you to get their paper, as waiting a few seconds for you to know which butter to choose would ruin their lives?

c) They're young and local bylaws mean they can only walk four abreast, the most submissive one taking the gutter and struggling to keep-up in distance and popularity?

Jus' sayin'.

Ash Hodson who ever he is said:
The pubs are opening next week but if you can drink from home, you should. If you can’t drink from home you can go to the pub but only for essential drinks. You should stay 2 metres apart unless you’re pissed then you can move up to 1 metre so someone can hold you up/chat you up/feel you up. Don’t get too pissed though as you need to stay alert but if you do get too pissed, use your drunken aggression to beat the virus.. There will also be a round of applause for all bar staff at 2am every day to make up for the pittance they earn.
Stay safe
2nd wave is coming and its going to be Tsunami

Finally got around to doing my antibody test this week, and seems my suspicion were right.
but strange thing is i had trouble breathing before the 19th February bit before all this virus kicked off in the uk, got sent for ecg bloods and xray. all came back ok from what the GP could tell, on the 9th march he referred me to a specialist (not had appointment yet). I told him i had lost my sense of smell but at the time it was not one of the symptoms.
I had only been ill for 1 day badly in February, when i was going hot n cold at night but still went to work in the daytime.

results.
