Hey guys, my cars started to be a bit of a bitch, it's starts fine but the engine management light stays on saying "start stop unavailable" starting to get really annoying as the cars permanently in limp home mode!! Really starting to go of this car as costing stupid anounts to fix!! Has anyone else had these problems...

My car has displayed "start stop unavailable" with the engine warning light a couple of times now. I don't understand why you said the car was in limp home mode though. Apart from the message and light the car operates as normal.

Quite a few people have experienced this. Some explanations are that the battery is too low for the start stop system. Even if you have the system switched off it still happens. All I did was ignore it and a day or so later it went away. You will find these kind of issues a common occurrence as the car is packed full of gizmos.

Yeah mines only started doing it lately, goes in limp home mode for about 3 seconds then it's fine, just irritating so I cut some black tape and stuck it over the light so I can't see it haha... Shame you can't remove the stupid thing

You sure it's going into Limp Home mode or could it just be misfiring momentarily?

I believe the Abarth Evo uses a MultiAir engine? The MultiAir units can fail on these engines in other models (Alfa MiTo & Giulietta, Punto Evo) & causes rough running, uneven idling and power loss. It can (though doesn't necessarily) put on the warning lights.

It should store a misfire fault code in the computer if it's the MultiAir unit. About £800 to repair at an independent, £1000 ish at a dealer. Though if the car's been serviced on the schedule, especially at Fiat/Abarth, it's worth phoning customer services to see if they'll contribute as it's a well known problem on MultiAir engines.

Not saying it's definitely that, but sounds a bit like it might be.

Let me give you a hint.
After changing turo in my car and programming it, it shoewed the engine light flashing on and off saying start and stop anavailable.
This error shoewed in multiscan that theres is a problem with unitronic (or something like that) and low battery.
My engineer asked a friend of him in fiat dealership and he said that there is a new official update from fiat for the multiair engine. So, im changing battery tommorow and then going right away to fiat for the update to also erase the check engine.

If your car is in warranty then take it to a Fiat or Abarth dealer and they will repair it for you for FREE.
