Hi everyone, traded my twinair punto for a AGP Today, and wasn’t able to get the car on a fast test drive, on the way home unfortunately I noticed a vibration/juddering only when accelerating. The car has been lowered so I’m wondering if it’s driveshafts? Gearbox seems good but did contemplate differential? Any help greatly appreciated, hoping I haven’t bought myself a dog ?

Could be a number of things..

Check tyre pressures first.
Check wear pattern as it could be tracking and poor alignment.
Overall tyre condition ok?
Could be wheel balancing.

Always check the simplest things first....well thats my mantra

Driveshafts... not cheap.. but simple..
Are you going to stick with current rideheight?

Hi there, and sorry for the slow reply. I’ve been told there’s a part that runs through the centre of the gearbox that could be worn, but struggling to find a name and part number!

I was told driveshafts are less than 6 months old but I’m not ruling them out!

I’ve removed the coil over kit now as it was stupidly low and this has improved the shuddering/judder loads, but it’s still evident when pushing hard, seems worse in 4th although this could be my imagination.

She’s had a gearbox rebuild so I’m hoping it’s not a sign of bearing failiure as the gearbox seems quiet other than that!

Many thanks for the reply’s

What have you replaced the coilovers with?..did you change the top mounts too?

Coilovers can play havoc with the driveshafts and whilst I know you said they were 6 months old do you know if they were a quality part ?..irrespective they could be fubarred ..BUT your only getting the noise/juddering in a certain gear at certain revs/load?...

Im going through the same but with a tjet grande (5 speed box) running standard suspension

Shuddering 3/4th under load when torque comes in 3-4k rpm

Wheels and tyres have been replaced new
Complete new genuine right hand side driveshaft

Still no different, got a new inner joint and cup to put on the left side soon

Engine mounts ??

- verify no obvious excessive play with a crow-bar
- engine running,
- hand-brake on
- engage 2nd gear and simulate a real pick-up
- if you hear the noise it's probably a bad mount
- if not you probably face a (2) worn cup/spider ...

Worth to have a look also at the exhaust pipe ;-)

Hi mate, I’ve replaced the suspension with a Koni original set up, the ride height and dampening are of original specs, and also fitted genuine top mounts, new tyres, refurbished wheels. I have the receipt for the driveshafts and they where £597+vat, I can’t feel any obvious play in the driveshafts but I know obviously that doesn’t mean a lot! And I suppose the coil overs could have damaged them, it was very low!

So the shudder is definitly in all gears but only under hard acceleration, once your cruising it goes away, or if you accelerate gently it’s hardly noticeable!

Many thanks for any help

Its going to sound daft but have you considered checking the gearbox fluid?..

if its getting 'used vigorously' then maybe the fluid has degraded..

any leaks?..

Customer: My computer doesn't start ...
Help-desk: Is the wall-plug in ?
Customer: What do you mean "wall-plug" ?

I hope we are not in that kind of scenario ;-)

Just sorted mine with new left hand inner joint and cup, also replaced the gearbox mount (left hand side) as was split
