So, just spent a few hours at Lyles of Newcastle with my AGP and she's failed and been classed as "dangerous to drive" as the rear bake pads are less than 1.5 mm, both front coil springs are broken, hazard warning lamps inoperative and the parking brake efficentcy is below requirements,so i got a quote for the work to be done and i'm not sure if i'm being ripped off or not,to replace the rear pads and disc's they're quoting £195.60 and to replace the front springs i have a quote of £197.42 both including VAT and as for the hazard light they're saying it's a case of poking about till they find the fault. does anyone has any advice that i can take into consideration?

That's a nasty list. I wouldn't say it was 'dangerous to drive' seeing some of the states on the road but hey I'm no mechanic.
eBay will get you rear discs and pads (if the discs are wrecked, if not just pads) much much cheaper than that, it's very simple with basic tools to fit those, as for the springs if it were me I'd be buying some aftermarket ones (a set is again much cheaper than buying 2) and have them fitted by someone. It appears to be easier than other cars I've owned to fit them but I couldn't do it. Back discs yes but not springs. (Fitted both items on my own on a Clio sport though)
As for the hazards it could be the switch, I'd be tempted to find a breakers and see if that's what the problem is. I seem to remember seeing it was a common fault but I wouldn't put money on it.

cheers bud,for the past year the cars felt fine, i've already had a look on ebay for parts but not sure which to go for,any chance of a push in the right direction?

Hazard lights may be bad connection, earth or fuse blown (the indicators working?) has for the rest its about average quote but can do them yourself via guides section if you feel safe enough.

I'll try!!
eBay number 141709009427 for rear discs and pads. Really isn't too hard if you have a basic tool set.
The handbrake issue could be to do with the pads being low but don't quote me.
If you eBay Abarth punto springs, sets go from £95 up to £180 but that's a full set of uprated, lowered springs.
Pull the hazard switch out and see if everything is connected, then check the fuses. Seems I was right about the hazards being a fault, there's a thread recently about it. Have a search (I'm on my phone) and it's pretty recent. Might help out.

Everything all depends on what you can afford. Can imagine you not wanting cheap as its an abarth. I currently have pagid brakes and pads on the front (1.4 gp non abarth). You got to a indie garage or a chained garage?

cheers for that mate!,what a legend, the guy at the garage said the handbrake issue is due to the rear brakes being shot, that maybe my post about the hazards from a while back, the indicators all work great,it's just the hazard button that isn't working.

I really don't mind cheap at the min mate, i just want to get it through the MoT atm.

I would get some Mtec brakes for the rear I got them cross drilled all in for £70 and for lowering springs, I have a set of brand new eibachs for £100 or you could get the esseesse springs from £100-£150 on eBay, for brake pads I would recommend ebc red stuff or green stuff !

While I agree with you chris on not buying cheap, they are rear discs, so don't do as much as the fronts. Plus if Daryl gets mtec drilled discs for the rear it'll look odd without the fronts being drilled too. More cost...
The ones I listed I would have no issue getting, in fact when I change mine I'll get some.
The springs sound a good deal from Chris though, £100 is a bargain!

Daryl it was your thread, what an idiot I am!!

sorry for the late reply, been at Sunderland airshow, these will be the pads and discs?,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141709009...l?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=141709009427&_rdc=1

also found these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Punt...=Model:Punto/Grande+Punto&hash=item5afc1b8564

but if they're no good i'll take them springs off your hands Chris, as for the hazard light i've not got that far as i dunno how to get to it, it's my first time as a fiat owner, the last car was a peugeot 306, do i just pull the silver facial surround off with a phillips screwdriver to get to the hazard button ?

just had a neighbour help me with the hazard switch, turns out there's water damage on the green microchip inside,so going to need to source a new one.

The eBay link doesn't work but if it's the same as the one I listed should be yes. I am certain they are 264mm discs.
The springs that Chris is selling are a bargain though, def jump on those.
Good news on tracking the problem with the hazard switch. Get one from a breakers and bada bing sorted.

The guide on here for the rear bearing change goes through there disc change, and it's two 13mm bolts and one/two 19mm bolts for the caliper and that's it! Easy peasy disc change.
?

my mates re- soldered the chip lastnight so he's gonna try find the fuse before to see if he's fixed it,if not i'll be buying another which should be fun as all i know about it is that it has " trw 01195500" on it and i don't even know what i'll be looking for, also isn't the abarth chip different to a normal grande punto with the sport boost button in the middle instead of hazards.

If need a new chip then just go online and search for car breakers. They will send you a price for the part you need (if they've got it) and then they post it. I've done it a few times for different parts

just a quick update, got the ebay discs and pads ordered also took Chris up on his eibach springs, just wrking on the hazard lights now, does anybody know where i'll find the fuse for the indicators/hazard lights?.. checked the manual and it doesn't say where it is. =/

Isn't it in the glovebox? I'm sure I remember seeing the location as there.

Edit no upon checking in the manual it's not listed anywhere. Sorry

one fusebox under the bonnet and one located in the boot.....

Been working with my neighbour on the car this weekend, been a lot more to it that what was first thought to be a straightforward fix, aswell as the Eibach springs i've had to go out and buy new front shocks aswell as the ones that where on were slightly curved, so spent most of yesterday evening sorting that out and the agp feels a lot better now, so today we've started at 11am with the rear disc's and brakes, started on the nearside rear caliper at 11am and we've not long got it all cleaned up and unseized and got the new discs and pads on only to find that the discwon't move at all now with the handbrake off,so looking at a new caliper for that side and we're just about to start the offside caliper in a few mins, also took some photo's of the condition of the nearside pads and disc...
