General Definitive service costs

General Definitive service costs

The service was done and at the fixed price of 190 pounds. The can was nicely cleaned and is feeling as new. The service did take a bit longer than the 2 hours but I did not mind as I got to test drive a giulietta alfa.

Wait let me get this straight.... 190 GBP for a 1 year service 9000 miles just changing the oil+filter + cabin filter? I hope I am very wrong here!

Well I could have taken it to a unofficial dealer and had it done for cheaper and void my warranty. I did phone two other main dealers and the price was the same. I did not think they where prices that could be bargained with?

A VERY COMMON mistake that people make, including yours truly on my first service, is the assumption that not taking your car to a dealer will void the warranty. This is not true at all, if you replace parts under Fiat OEM specification or best use Fiat OEM parts, you will keep the warranty under no worries, especially the first 2 year manufacturer warranty.

For example, Selenia oil is needlessly expensive while Castrol Magnatec oil has the same specs but is more reasonable.
Also DEALERS CRAZY MARK UP the prices of spare parts not to mention ridiculous labor rates = )

Thank you for the feedback and I will remember this for the next one.

I did check the bill and its the damn labour thats hiking the price. The parts used was about 40 pounds the rest was all labour.

The requirement is also that the car be serviced by a VAT registered garage. You can, and should, always phone around and haggle. I've never known a dealer not drop their first price. It's like Bid TV, but without the naff suits. Actually, hang on....

Cheers for the reply guys I will definitely do a bit more haggling the next time. Tomorrow its the BMW's day for some TLC. I am ready to take some money out of the house mortgage to pay for this one lol.

Whilst it is true that you won't void your warranty you are likely to void any "goodwill gesture" from Abarth if things go wrong, especially say if a problem occurs just outside the warranty period.

I do agree about the Abarth dealers charges though, they are completely ludicrous and totally out of kilter with service packages offered by Mini, VW, Renault etc

Well yes but if its a warranty fix it is in the interests of the dealer to fix it as they get paid by fiat to do the work!

£65 for a brake fluid change:eek:.....i'm in the wrong business!!!

Agreed. So the Wife's POP is no Arbarth, but the brake fluid was replaced on that on the two year service at an independent garage (who specialises in Alfa/Fiat), using genuine Fiat service items, and he charged £26.50 to change the brake fluid (the brake fluid was £4.95) so the labour part cost £21.55.

Just returned from a local Authorised Abarth Service agent, 10 miles away, rather than 45 miles to the dealership. Had Oil Filer and Oil change, price including labour was £94.88. Parts were: Oil Filter, Sealing gasket, Selenia Abarth 10W50 Oil (4 litres, of which I was given the left over litre) plus screenwash.

Pricing included VAT the labour element was £25.18. May have paid a premium for the parts but as I am not equipped to do this simple task myself I did not think it too bad?

Chas, only thing I see missing is the cabin filter which is supposed to be changed every year, why I don't know, should be based on mileage really.

Tony, never gave it a thought and it wasn't mentioned. Mind you I am fragrant enough so don't suppose it matters re the filter.

Well in polluted cities it is good to change them every year as they get really really dirty!

Ahmett, have you ever been to Arundel?

However, I appreciate the point you are making. The reason for my remark is that theoretically the first service could be at 18000 miles and that could have been covered in a "polluted" city environment. As I know where Chas hangs that peculiar hat of his I am sure his filter will easily be efficient up until his next service.

Ahmett, come to Arundel, we have a river, a castle, a cathedral and a 14th century Anglican church which has a small catholic church, which belongs to the Duke of Norfolk, attached to it.

As part of the EU we are a Cabin Filter Free Zone:ROFLMAO:
