hi im hoping for a little help, im restoring a lill fiat 900t camper for my wife as a 40th birthday present, at the moment my biggest problem is the starter motor, when its off the van i can connect it to a battery and short the teminals and the starter will spin, quite slowlyt at first then speeding up, some times it needs a coaxing with a screwdriver to snap the solonoid out but after a few goes it spins just by bridging the terminals, so im guessing the primary windings are buggered, does anyone know where to get a replacement starter (fiat e76-0.5/12s-var.9 m2 11-z9 4112049), ive tried google ebay, local car shops , halfords, to no avail, id rather have a reconditioned one, rather than a scrapped part as im after future reliablility.

im guessing the only other option is to have the starter reconditioned by a company, but im worried that they will not be a able to replace the armature as its not a common starter

any help would be great

thx

Hi. These are fairly easy to get hold of if you have the 900T with the 903cc OHV engine - who told you they weren't common?

Look on Ebay under either Fiat 127, Fiat Panda, or Fiat Uno. The 127's with 903cc engines as well as early Panda's and Uno's (45's) had the same engine, as did some Seat's (Marbella and Ibiza) & Yugo's. Just check the fitting is the same and you should be fine.

Try item 200506816557 which looks like the cheapest at present?

I think I have one somewhere if you get really stuck - it's my spare which stands me at about £50 inc postage. Let me know if you can't find one elsewhere, but you should find one easily - don't get ripped off for £150, they aren't particularly rare so aim for 1/3 of that!

Hope this helps,

Gavin.

Thanks for advice, are u definate, as i was told that the engine turns in reverse to the uno and panda therefore the starter motor wouldnt work with them

It may be that you need to get one specifically for the old 850T then, or 850 saloon/coupe/spider, Fiat/Seat 133 will be the same? The basic 903 engine can be made to run in reverse when put into an 850 saloon for example, certainly. The last starter I bought was definitely listed by the seller as 900T/127/Panda but this may be incorrect. I'm pretty sure I still have an 850T one somewhere (from my old camper) but haven't seen it for a while - will look round next week.

Best places if it's not easily available are Ricambio (0208 6693800, [email protected]), or try Rory Cole (+44 (0)1424 218687, [email protected]) who specialises in 850s and will undoubtedly have an 850 one somewhere.

hey gavin

wondered if you could dig out the starter you have is it a
fiat

Hi Tim,
I'm about to take mine off and service it. Mine has a sticking solenoid which probably only needs cleaning up and lubricating but I'll stick a set of brushes in it if they are needed.
How are you getting on for other parts for your resto?

Hi Gavin,
those numbers might come in handy. (y)
Did you ever find a good home for the 127 Sport engines? I hope they helped somebody out.

Hey paulo , i ended up biting the bullet and buying a new one from a chap in america $250 delivered to uk for a brand new one not recon, with no core return, so ill sell my one on for spares on ebay to recoup a lill money back, ricambo wanted £240 (£ mind u not $) delivered for a recon one and id have to pay to return my core to him, got any clues as to where i can get shock absorbers cheap for my 1979 van, only ones i can find are 68-77 which arnt the same
